I'll also warn you that once you drive it, your jt will seem anemic. The power train when it's all lit up is amazing. So much pull at all speeds and it does it effortlessly
Almost like an eco diesel, just without the range ?

Diesel looks perfect to me too.... :surprised: ;) Not saying one or the other, but both have had issues ha..... And I'm a fan of them all! No hate!

EDIT: In case my post wasn't clear, that's a Diesel burnt to the ground in response to a post, not a 4xe. And yes, a Tacoma is passing by in the background lol. I'm just enjoying my simple v6 until the cards finally fall.

One of my buddies bought a loaded Rubicon 4xe for his wife. She loves it. They're in Northern NH, plenty of cold and mountains. She has about a 20 mile commute each way to work, and almost never uses gas, even in winter. The winter grille cover is a must, and that means paying attention to engine temps if it's closed and the gas engine kicks in.

Cons: Besides the already mentioned grille cover which should be considered required for cold weather, and the hassle of manually adjusting it for ev/gas...
Electricity in the Northeast is on the $$$ side. Running almost purely EV mode, her monthly "fuel" bill is only about 50% lower than her previous hemi powered Trailhawk. Not as cheap as they expected.
Adding the level 2 home charger was somewhat pricey, and while talking about charging, there is a major design flaw in the plug design. If you are parked outside charging, if you get any sleet, icing, snow thaw/freeze whatever, water gets into the locking mechanism on the plug and freezes. You can't unplug until you thaw it out. There are some aftermarket magnetic plug covers out there, but there is no steel in the plug area to stick to. Right now she bungee cords an plastic bag over it if there is going to be any chance of winter precipitation.
All in all she's very happy with it. They ARE a Jeep family, always at least 1 or 2 in the driveway, so they might not be as nitpicky as some of the 1st time owners.

My wife doesn't ever park outside at home except to unload her stuff.
Then it's in the garage. Her Jeeps don't see a lot of sun.
Charging - my generator outlet is right next to where the charging port would be on a Wrangler. I'd likely tie into that since it's good enough to back-feed my generator into the house through. I've also got other heavy circuits in the garage. Power isn't a problem - 60 amp box out there.

Electricity in Iowa is some of the cheapest in the country. (and it's over 50% wind generated).
When we went all-electric about 10 years ago, and added my shop it put us over the usage threshold where every kilowatt hour over that is a lot cheaper.

I believe you get 30% credit for the cost of the charger installation if I recall - but I'd do that myself.

What’s hilarious is that the grill cover being “required” is a clear sign of bad engineering. Why do other PHEV’s not need them? The 4xE was rushed into production with known problems. The grill cover is a bandaid, not a solution.

Maybe the people who are happy with theirs thibk this is how PHEV’s are. I can personally tell you, they are not. The technology, when properly used and implemented, is fantastic. Jeep just hasn’t figured it out yet, and they’re covering up the problems with lies about oil needing to be “refreshed”, on an engine that’s done nothing but run. But you can purchase an accessory to kind of make it a bit better? No thank you. I’m a true electric drivetrain fan, and a lifelong Jeep person, but these are pure crap. If you want to spend 60k on a vehicle that was falsely advertised, this one is for you.

Below around that temperature you have to plug in or it won't let you start the engine for various reasons. If she wants to deal with plugging it in every day, she'll benefit from the economy improvements but if she doesn't, that's okay too. It will run along indefinitely powered by the gas motor just at a slightly lower economy than a regular 2.0L.

You can drive it in cold weather, just not with the benefit of the electric drivetrain. And its gas mileage will be worse than the 2.0l without the hybrid drivetrain bogging it down. Poor design. I hope they figure it out someday.

It will use the electric drive train, but not exclusively if it's in FORM. You still get the hybrid benefit which is why I say it's not an ev with a range extender, it's a hybrid with a big battery. You won't have worse fuel economy than a 2.0 only because it still runs hybrid.

Don't they all? Every so often while driving either I80 or I35 in central Iowa, I see burn marks on the shoulders of the interstate............ and I wonder........... I've seen everything from full-size pickups to sedans and at times, the fire crews are just arriving as we drive by. It's why you stay alert while driving and have a good fire extinguisher or a good escape plan. (or both)
Doesn't matter, fuel is fuel, heat is heat. And they all have electrical systems and who the heck knows who the last person to work on them was.

Brad has great content...there's a lot of 4xe stuff on his channel. He sold it tho.

Yes all of Brads videos are great. Seems like he’s owned every Jeep there is.
