Wilson's Mills is just East of Errol headed toward Rangely. Fish Pond Road and Lincoln Pond road both have good bird hunting. Close enough for a day trip like you're saying. We made many many trips to that area over the years. In fact, when I finished my CJ7, that was the first road trip I took in on. We got 6 birds that day.
Why did you quit going?

You went a lot further north than we did. We hunted primarily between Errol, NH and Upton, ME. Right around an hour drive from Lovell so it worked out well to use my place as the camp. I know the hunting is supposed to be better further north though and I am looking forward to exploring it. We also tried the WMA right there in Fryeburg but we got skunked there. A Fryeburg local who used to bird hunt told me he used to have success there but we didn't see a thing with 2 dogs working.
You should’ve kept going north - hint - hint. . . .

We used to bird hunt the golden road up that way(Jackman). Our camp is in the Bingham/Solon area.
I used to fish below the dams in Bingham/Solon. Almost got myself killed trying to wade there too when I shouldn’t have during a major water release…

Spent a lot of time on the Golden Road and thereabouts looking for trout and birds. The North Maine Woods area is a national treasure. I hope it’s there forever.

So far I have only fished for bass in the lake but I am looking forward to exploring the brook trout streams in the area. I do some trout fishing here in VA, MD and PA. I grew up throwing rubber worms for bass in FL but luckily I have some friends here who are very good fly fisherman and offer some guidance on the streams.

One time we were up at the North End of Flagstaff where the dam is and in the gorge below the dam we found a metric shit ton of big salmon and trout that became trapped in little side pools when the water level went back down. Like mass casualty event, it was heartbreaking. We spent 2 hours netting the lives ones we could catch and tossing them back.

"I love nature partly because she is not man, but a retreat from him. None of his institutions control or pervade her. There a different kind of right prevails. In her midst, I can be glad with an entire gladness. If this world were all man, I could not stretch myself. I should lose all hope. He is constraint, she is freedom to me. He makes me wish for another world. She makes me content with this."

Once we bought the camp near Bingham we have been mostly hunting up that way.
I misunderstood your comment to mean that you quit hunting not that you just quit hunting there.

I’m glad it was you guys who found them and not some others who unfortunately don’t have the same appreciation for our wild resources. Can’t tell you how many empty, plastic worm canisters and garbage I’ve had to pick up and pack out of the fly fishing only sections on the Dead River.

Warden SerVice is too stretched out to patrol effectively. I’d hate to think what would happen if the wrong guys came up on similar circumstances. . .

I’ve been in Pensacola for almost a week now & there is a boatload of gladiators.
Everywhere I look there’s a gladiator. Usually wranglers outnumber gladiators by a huge margin. Here the ratio is not as wide. Guess I’m just not use to it…

On my 2500 mile (8 day) ride to Daytona Bike Week and back to North VA, I counted 31 JTs. Not that many, hundreds of Wranglers and F-150s. Most JTs seen in NC, GA, and FL.

You sure took a winding path to FL. We moved from FL to NOVA and I have made that drive many times.

That's the point of riding a Harley, enjoy the ride and do as many miles possible! That is total miles for the round trip.

I'm seeing a lot more JT's in my area of SW Pa. In fact, have 2 new ones at work now. Both bought in the last 2 weeks. I have fielded a lot of questions on mine at work. All are surprised when I say it's a diesel.
