"Stellantis dealer David Kelleher is taking every plug-in hybrid Jeep Wrangler he can get from the factory these days.

That's because the automaker is no longer allocating gasoline-only Wranglers to his dealership in Pennsylvania, one of 14 states following emissions guidelines set by the California Air Resources Board that exceed nationwide standards.

Although the rules don't require automakers to sell a certain percentage of zero-emission vehicles until 2026, Stellantis said it has stopped shipping internal combustion models to dealerships in those 14 states unless customers have ordered them. Meanwhile, dealers in non-CARB states can no longer get the Wrangler 4xe and other plug-ins without a customer order."

Odd, check dealer lots, unless this JUST happened, the 4xe is everywhere. And selling quite well in places like Iowa.
There's tons of 4xe out there on dealer lots. At least in January. Every JLU I found with the options we wanted were 4xe, and they were all over the place.

There's another thread on this as I recall.............

This is specifying that ONLY 4XE are being shipped to the dealership in the post.

Saying this another way is that Gas powered vehicles will only be available by order in certain states. Stellantis will not ship excess inventory to those 14 states.

But currently 4xe is only 4 door. So, no dealers in those states will be carrying 2 door models. Unless ordered. At least that is what I got out of it. I built a 2024 on jeep .com and they do not offer a 2 door version in 4xe.
I see the demise of the 2 door in the future. Another step away from true jeep heritage in my eyes

The quarterly smog check proposal is for heavy duty vehicles - 18 wheelers/ large RVs. I do find the every other year smog check for my 77 Trans Am a little annoying but it’s not a huge deal.

That being said I could understand folks not being happy about this policy given the price difference is $20K more than a base Wrangler to get the PHEV version. At the same price maybe I could be more accepting.

It's actually only about 5 grand. Sport s auto is 45, sport s 4xe is 49. There is no 2 door/stripper 4xe though so it won't touch the sport stripper model down in the mid 30s.

I was thinking if you wanted a 2 door base wrangler ($31K) you’d have to buy the $50K 4xe instead.

I wouldn't be shocked if they just don't care though since the 2 door uptake is so miniscule that they keep it around for nostalgia and brand identity more so than actual sales.

Yeah you’re probably right. In all of the news articles you see about this item they’ve been comparing the 4xe price to that base 2 door price though, maybe for more dramatic effect.
