Having previously painted the inside of my JKUR hardtop, it was a no brainer to give the Gladiator the same treatment, with the addition of a @Hothead Headliners and sound assassin package.
I began by taking off the hardtop, removing all hardware, and scuffing with black scotchbrite. Quick wipe down with wax and grease remover and it was ready for paint! I used SEM Trim Ultra satin paint. I used the same stuff on my JKUR and it does a great job matching the factory black plastic. If you’re not installing a headliner, the all black headliner looks killer! The factory hardtop design stands out so much more in black! Check it out:
Next up was reinstalling all factory hardware and sound assassin strips. I didn’t take pictures of them all installed, but it looks just like the install pics from Hotheads.
Finally, I installed the headliners themselves and let it all air out over night and most of the following day. The headliner had a more pronounced smell than the paint itself. It’s still a bit smelly, so hopefully that goes away in the next couple of days.
In my opinion, the black paint + headliner is the way the top should come from the factory. It gives the interior a much better, finished look! Take a look for yourself:
Very happy with the results! Haven’t had a chance to test out any difference in acoustics or temperature control, but the looks themselves are worth it to me! Cheers!
