So I've spent probably half the day looking at various Youtube videos and still don't FULLY understand this LOL

(This is a great video btw, but not sure how much it applies since I have the Aux Switches)

Anyway, my question:

I have the Auxbeam 4 Inch Amber 90w Floodlights.
This is the Wiring hardness it came with: Auxbeam Led Light Bar Wiring Harness with 12V 40Amp Fuse Relay

I have a 2022 JTR WITH the Aux Switches.

TOTAL newbie to wiring, but I love that I'm being forced to learn to do stuff, and I love it - so my questions are:
  1. Will these lights be fine for the 15 amp switches 3 or 4?
  2. Do I need to use the relay, or can I just cut off that wire? Typically, the black ground wire goes with the relay, and the red (with the fuse box) connects to the + side of the battery

I'm TOTALLY fine if anybody just links me to a video showing how to do this set up, but so far I've not been able to find exactly that.

Thank you in advance!

Couldn't be simpler having done it myself. Just identify which Aux button you wish to use and then run an electrical cable from the relevant pre-installed cable under the bonnet (by battery) to the positive of both lights, then just ground the negative of each light.

The aux cables have relays pre-installed. LEDs have much less power draw than halogens so the 15a is fine.

Awesome, thank you very much… Did you use the relay along with the ground cable, and then hook up the red cable to the battery?

Thank you :)

The Aux wiring is all you need. The relay and battery part are not necessary and would likely short everything out if you hooked up with the Aux wiring. You can clip off the part of the harness going to the lights and hook that to the Aux wire of your choice. Ground goes anywhere you can find a good point - lots of places under the hood.

Aux wires are in a bundle under the hood and there are another set under the dash.

This video may help, unless it is one you already watched :)

lol I did see that one and it’s great thank you. Okay, so I was under the impression I had to use the wires etc that came with the lights. I’ll rewatch and see if I can figure this out lol. Thanks all!

No need for relays, you can ditch all the loom or cut and reuse only the cables.

Thanks So this is the relay I have (pardon the messy floor)., Obviously the switch is not going to be used, but what can I do with these?

Forgive the newbie question, we're all new to this stuff at one time (but once I learn it, I'm good lol)

Should I just cut back the electrical tape from the relay, use the headlight connectors (Cut the round bits), and run the red into the aux switch, and ground the black?

Edit: Or, do I just cut the cables that run from the lights from the relay and the rest, strip those, and connect them directly that way?

Thanks again!

Start with the cable you have, at the end with the connectors for the lights. Follow it back and cut it off just before it connects to the relay. Depending on how the harness was made, you will either have a long cable with a split end to connect the lights, or two long cables each with a light connector on the end. Unwrap the tape at the cut end and connect the red wire(s) to the Aux switch wire. Connect the black wire(s) to the battery negative or frame ground point. Connect the lights and press the corresponding Aux button. The lights should turn on. Connect and test it before mounting the lights and running the wire. You will need to adjust the Aux switch settings to match your intended use (battery, engine running, ignition on/off).

THANK YOU! That's actually what I was thinking after re-watching the aux-switch video again. Cut it off from the relay, trash the rest - THANKS ALL for putting up with my stupid questions :) Just want to do this right and not eff up my gladdy LOL

Edit: I can prob cut and crimp on the black 'ground wire' ring into the light cable too I assume? Or just use that whole cable and crimp it together with the black cable from the light?

One more question (for now lol), I just cut the light cables off - I have TWO of those, obviously I want to connect them to one switch - it's okay, I assume, to run both red cables into the aux switch wire, then ground both blacks together? TY again! :)

Yes, that's okay. I twist them together to test, and then use heat shrink tubing over the connections when finishing the installation.

Thanks Mr Bill and everybody else for your help! I actually understand this now! LOL I got a few things coming in the mail (heat shrink tubing, wire connectors, zip ties) so I'll do this soon. Thanks again! :)

To address which switch to use, you need to know the amp draw of the lights. These Auxbeam lights are 45W each (thus the 90W title)

The formula for current draw is I=P/V where I is current in amps, P is power in watts and V is the supply voltage.
90W/12V=7.5A

15A switch is just fine for these 2 lights.
