So I have 2023 gladiator sport with 6k miles. This is my first jeep. Love it but hail damage on the hood? Why is the hood so soft? My wife has a new Kia suv parked next to me during storm and no hail dings at all. Yesterday driving down highway few cars and I fet a ding in the windshield. Is this normal and just comes with owning a jeep? I know about pdr for hood but what about windshield?
thanks for reading my rant!

The Gladiator hood is aluminum for every trim except the Mojave. That's why it's softer.

As far as the windshield, It's a Jeep thing. You have a large, flat windshield that is at a more vertical angle than just about any other vehicle on the road. The Jeep windshield tends to take direct impacts where a more angled and curved windshield will tend to deflect road debris.

No cracks on the windshield, but just got my rig back from hail repair. All the damage was focused on the hood and the cowling. About $1300 in cost for this-

To expand what was said above - Jeep isn't the only company using aluminum body panels.
With today's focus on mpg and emissions, the trend is for lighter. But people want their options and luxury and safety is demanded (like air bags everywhere but down from the roof and those aren't light) they've got to cut weight somewhere.
Hail damage can often be easily fixed.
And like already said - when a projectile hits something at 90 degrees, or near 90, the full force of the impact has to be absorbed by the glass.
With a laid back glass with curves and slopes, the projectile only imparts part of its energy into the glass and bounces up and keeps on moving.
This was seen on a car I have when a rock hit the front of the hood and then every couple of inches for 2 or 3 feet then dinged the glass but didn't do more than a teeny spot. I was hit by that rock several times, luckily each time the impact had diminished energy.

Physics.

About $500 for the hood minus all the other bits, which should transfer over.

Doesn't include prep and paint.

Dude I'm in CenTex too and have the same thing. Let me know who you go with for PDR. I haven't even talked to insurance yet.
