I picked these up because the dealer recommended protecting the hinges.

They don’t seem to have a snug fit. Will the tape hold? The smaller peice doesn’t have tape at all.

I’m going to clean the wax off with dish soap.

I hope you didn't buy them from the dealer. There's cheaper ones on Amazon.

The tape should hold.

Are those solid black or the carbon ones. I'm looking for some solid flat black ones, not glossy and have had a tough time in the past finding some. Haven't tried looking in a while

They dont protect the hinges but look cool. The smaller one on my old Wrangler had a small cap on top with a small piece of double side tap under cap. They slide over the top and they are snug... they dont fly off...well may be over 100mph but u cant even do that in a JTUR

What are they supposed to be protecting the hinges from? I'm not seeing anything damaging my hinges.

Rock chips. I've got several on the leading edge of most of the hinges. I've been thinking about doing this too but can't find any that aren't super obvious. I hate the way they look but want to protect them. I can't find any that are snug and thin. (think minimalist cell phone case)

Too much poke? Add fender extensions or get wheels that fit properly.

Nope, bought it with stockers and they were chipped up before I installed the wheels and tires. I have more poke now, so I've got more reason to cover them

Mud flaps.
Agreed, but I'm fighting with myself over the "old man" status that full length running boards and mud flaps brings.... And then there's the whole ripping them off on the trail problem...

Balancing act going on ya know?

I put helicopter tape on my hinge leading edges. Also under the hinges where the ratchet could screw up the paint when removing the doors.

The clear tape originally used on the leading edges of helicopter blades. It morphed into phone screen covers, iPad covers, mountain bike frame tape, etc. Can get it in sheets or rolls. Provides impact resistance.
