I'm new to the pulling a camper life. The wife and I are about to pull the trigger on a small camper and am looking for advice and tips. Mostly the brake controller thing. The sales man I spoke to on the phone said my Gladiator may or may not need new diodes to install the brake controller but if it didn't it would be $499 for them to install one on the jeep. He said he pulls his with a Rubicon Gladiator and he needed something done at the dealership before they could install the brake controller. Any advice on Thai would be great. I got a Max Tow if that helps. The camper we are looking at is around 3100lbs.

No diodes that I'm aware of. I went with the Redarc. Only hard part is deciding where to mount the dial.

I'm not sure if it's something I want to try to do myself or have a dealer do it. They told me if nothing is needed it's $499 for them to install one.

I went with a Curt controller since I wasn't willing to give up the 12 volt outlet in the dash. The installation is very easy. You just need the four wire harness that connects between the factory plug under the dash and the brake controller. There are already diodes in the Curt harness for the Gladiator. There is no programming or other changes needed for the computer. $499 is not totally unreasonable, if it includes a good brake controller. If that is just the installation fee, it is the bend you over price.

Buy the factory Mopar option--There are a few really good You Tube videos outlining the installation. It looks factory and works flawlessly..........

Not sure which controller it is but it includes the controller and install and they are willing to finance everything in but I'll probably just pay for the controller install. Good to know there is nothing additional needed. I'm gonna call my dealership tomorrow and see what kinda price they are offering to do it. I'm a newbie to it so not sure if I want try to tackle it or not since it's a important part of the safety of pulling it. $500 would be a minor investment for peace of mind.

I'll look into the Curt Controller though and call around a few places and see what I would looking at after talking with the dealership. Appreciate the info!

I only paid $135 for it, but that was in May of 2020. I used the tape and mounted the knob just below and to the right of the Start button. It is the only smooth surface on the dash that the tape would stick to long-term. I didn't want to put any holes in the dash. The wire comes out the bottom of the button and is hidden behind a dash panel just below it.

Is the bluetooth Curt any good for someone that doesnt tow all the time? Might be good for the situation
Yes it is

id HIGHLY suggest either the curt echo or the mopar controller. Both are solid.

i used the curt echo for a year and a half before i installed the Mopar controller. The echo was flawless, i am just neurotic and wanted the integrated oem controller.

You don't have to give up the 12v outlet. You just drill another hole in the cover there is enough room. Only down side to redarc is manual over ride is the value of setting nothing more. So in a shit moment and you need the trailer to lock up you have to turn the dail and then hit it.

Probably easy enough, but I didn't want to put any holes in the dash or have to disassemble anything to do the installation. All I had to do was remove the panel under the steering wheel.

Yes it is
+1 ?

It just so happened last weekend my Chevy 3500 sprung a radiator leak and I had to pull with my Gladiator in a pinch. I picked up the curt bluetooth from a local u-haul store as I didn't have time to put in a box. not sure I will ever bother installing a box again.
