So my Jeep is at the dealer getting the rear driveshaft replaced because of a bad carrier bearing . They said the pitch was too much and made premature failure. I have a factory mopar 2.5 inch lift . My question is don’t ya think Jeep would have covered this in there lift kit ? Also there’s 3/4 inch spacers and 1 1/2 inch spacers how do ya know what one to get ? The dealer is installing the bigger spacer .

I would have to measure mine but I believe, for my 2.5" lift, the spacer is 1 or 1 1/4".
That being said I think the MOPAR lift doesn't even have a spacer - so maybe they're just trying to justify it? is it being covered under warranty or are they saying you have to pay for it?

Nope they are covering it under warranty. The mechanic recommended it and said the whole driveshaft should be linear . He said when it’s sitting still it’s fine but when in motion it might have to much up and down movement for the bearing . He also said this may be a preventative thing to prevent it from happening again .Do you remember what brand you have ?

I had to replace both drive shafts on my JKU because i never paid attention to this before. With my jt ive had 2in of lift for probably 70k - 80k miles. I installed the rock jock spacer linked above and haven’t had an issue yet. To my eye the shaft angles seem a bit to much but i check the boots regularly and have no tearing or unusual wear marks. Part if that may be that my jt is entirely a road warrior and doesn’t go off road.

glad they’re fixing it for you and yes id go with at least the linked spacer.

Any pictures of your pinion angle? I'm curious to see how off it was to cause a driveshaft failure.

I went with the Rockjock spacer.

No i dont but it looked normal to me . He said the downward movement may have caused it. He also said there is no way of telling 100 percent what caused this to happen and may just be a parts failure. The tech said after the warranty is off i may want to look into a one piece driveshaft.

When i got mine that rock jock was the only one available so it made that choice very easy haha i also watched a handful of videos that talked about drive shaft angles and, as far as i understood them, a straight line from the tcase to the dif was not the optimal angle.

yes an 1 1/2 seems like it would be alot. Isnt the rock jock one 3/4 of an inch ?

Yep, The rock jock is 3/4. I guess if everything moves equally adding 2in of spring lift raises the body by 2in. Which means the drive shaft could hypothetically be lowered by 2in and be back to a “factory” alignment. ?‍♂ with that in mind I don’t think its that exact and i dont THINK its a big issue since the shaft angle changes during vehicle operation and is only a problem when put at more extreme angles.

as an example my jku had 4in of spring/spacer lift with an additional 1in body spacer lift. So I definitely put that one at just enough of an angle that after 50-60k miles my shafts needed attention.
