Great advice Labswine. I have pulled many trailers, some of my equipment is in the 20k range, plus my 38' Grand Design Momentum toy hauler. This is my first small/medium sized truck and i need want to keep it in its comfort zone and reliable when me and the mrs head out across the tundra. Im assuming the trans on these doesnt care about 7th long distance running. I dont want to overload a gear set that wasnt designed for it.

Pulling it you will have no issues at all, the diesel will run like its not behind you. id really think about where you are boondocking if you intend to run a WDH. they're not meant for significant flexion and taking it off road COULD put undo stress on the front end of your camper. Some trucks and travel trailers recommend NOT using one due to the possibility of damage to the trailer if traveling at abnormal angles.

Before you spend the money on the WDH, see how the JT handles the TT. Yould will probably be surprised.

You can also consider sumo springs rear jounce pads. Theyll allow for more control and less bounce with the weight in the rear. And the wont take away from spring travel like air bags if you off road.

If your not a hardcore crawler, then airbags would be awesome.

Thanks for the tips. Never thought about the off road w the WDH. If i take the bars off and remove the sway control it ahould act like a normal hitch. Im not planning on hardcore woods running w this trailer. Dirt roads, fireline passages etc, just to get away for a day or two. If the bags are used for towing, but deflated after unhitched, this wont allow doing trails and such? Im really thinking about bags, then welding on tabs for a sway control, and not use a WDH.

Jeep Gladiator Towing Set Up Questions IMG_0343

I have 19500 miles clocked while towing my RPOD 189 (weighing in at 3400 loaded)

my 2 cents.

1. Don’t Regear
2. An equalizer hitch is worth every penny
3. Avoid a heavy foot, for me speeds of 63-67 are ideal.
4. When climbing mountains on 80+ degree days, slow your roll and take your time.

I should also say, I have 35” E rates on a Mopar 2” lift with an extra 1/2” plate up front

With my setup, I don’t disconnect anything off road. Equalizer hitch stays connected.

I go places I really shouldn’t with my setup.…

Nice set up, thats almost exactly what i have in mind! AND i have a red Willys. Im looking at a Geo Pro 19fbs, dry weight around 3200, figure w water and gear prob in the 3700 range. So you have had no issues w pulling? im headed to Moab, Yellowstone/Tetons, Grand Canyon, etc. Big loop back to Sante Fe NM, then back east

I’ve done several big trips to Moab, through the San Juan’s, Eisenhower tunnel, Idaho, Montana, etc.

Zero issues for me so far (besides recalls)

keep speeds modest, keep your foot light, it will have no issues.

stability improvement through equalizer hitch is a must in my book.

rear coils are more suited for off-road IMO vs the leaf springs in most tow rigs, but it’s totally fine.

Does your trailer have torsion axles? Thats what this GeoPro has, with some AT tires, and slight lift. We are gonna camp all the way out and back. Figured two weeks should give us a good taste. Any good stops or favorites places you may have found, send me a PM
