I’d say it’s all relative. Our rubicon is fantastic at towing our 3,306lb (fully loaded GVWR) trailer. Our Cherokee Trailhawk with factory towing (4,500 rating) that this replaced was a dog with it. It’s certainly not a full size, but tows very well within its capacity. To put it in perspective, a Ram 1500 would be horrible towing 20,000lbs, but that doesn’t make it a bad tow vehicle.
Completely agree. The truck is a good tow vehicle when used appropriately, just like a Ram 1500. The JT frame etc was made specifically based on a truck. IT is not a wrangler with a bed thrown on it.

I have a willys sport. I added the mopar hitch as well as the mopar trailer brake. I tow 5500 lbs camper, 4 people and 600 lbs of stuff no problems. I think Mines "rated" at 4500. But there's no difference other then whats been mentioned. Alertanor which you cam do and fan.

Please don’t do it in Colorado. You may get away with it on flat Midwest roads, but it’s a hazard to others on mountain roads.

Stop trolling. Do your own math.
What? I did do my homework. I don't see the "hazard". I did the mountains in Pennsylvania just fine.

I think you're trolling. I don't even know why you'd say that.

If you read the thread, you’d see multiple people advise strongly against towing more weight than your vehicle is rated for. Then you posted that you’re doing exactly that, and think it’s fine.

It's not overweight. I have everything the max tow has (7650 lbs towing) at this point except wide axles. But I run 35s with an offset which are wider. Never take it above 55 mph. I get about 11 mpg doing it. Never had any issues. Towed 11k of the 20k on my truck.

What not to do. You have different axles, different cooling, different alternator, different gear ratio. Reckless. And you’re ignored.

I swapped for all those. Bought the cooling fan, alternator, regeared to 4.88 and all gladiators have dana 44 axles. I don't think you know what you're talking about. Even on stock 3.63 gears it towed fine.

If you think an altenator makes truck a hazard you don't know much about automobiles.

It seems that none of us really answered your question about whether or not there are towing guides out there. Here are some that could help explain some of the details. You could find more by doing searches:
https://www.autoblog.com/2020/06/17...CagredIKUEsXZR_hYb8ylMFD5-rj4lDf4dI6OTrB_YIp6

This one explains some terms but they are a bit overoptimistic on what can tow what. Just like you would expect from a trailer manufacturer. For example, the 1985 model has a GVWR of 7000 lbs so if you fully load it there will be nothing left over for passengers and other payload in the tow vehicle. No margin no bueno
