So, we all have heard of the mid-year 2021 TPMS change. On 6/7/21, Jeep (FCA) went from using the Schrader TPMS sensors to the continental TPMS sensors.

I wanted to share my story in hopes that it may help others.

I have a 2021 Gladiator with a January 2021 manufacture date. I purchased a set of Jeep OEM wheels that came off a later 2021 Jeep Gladiator. That’s when I learned that there was a TPMS change mid-year. After doing some research, I found that I needed a set of Schrader 29093 TPMS sensors, which I purchased. Needing an alignment, I went to Chaple Hill Tire, a local tire place, and had them installed. I received a call telling me they could not program the Schraders, but they had a set of sensors that would work fine. I told them about the mid-year change, and they said they knew and that their sensors would work.

They installed the new sensor, and of course, they did not work. I went back several times, where they tried to reprogram them to the truck, telling me I needed to keep driving it. Finally, after getting frustrated, I asked them to go ahead and install the Schraders. They told me they would not work because they needed to be programmed. I told them my understanding was that the TPMS module would recognize them after driving 15 MPH for 20 minutes.

Sure enough, the Schrader TPMS sensors were recognized after a few miles. The key takeaway is that the Schraders work with the TPMS module; therefore, programming the sensors is unnecessary, and the truck will relearn the new sensors automatically.

Short version: Tire people barely know tires. Anything beyond that and you're better off with Google.
True. I want against my best judgment when they called and told me they had sensors that would work. I knew the sensors would not work.

I envision this when dealing with people that are suppose to be professionals in their given field but are not:

Unlike some other vehicles, the Jeep TPMS system needs no programming or pairing. It will automatically recognize the sensors, if they are the correct ones and functioning properly. Any shop that tells you otherwise, should be avoided.

Discount Tire had no problem programming their sensors for my daughter's JK and the spare tire on my JT. They also warranty them for six years, I believe. I also have six extra sensors for the 2020 JT still mounted on the wheels, but they aren't much use to me now that I have a 2022 JT. I hear that the batteries in them are good for around 7 years.

Same here…just installed the Schrader TPMs and after a few minutes they worked just fine. No programming required.

Grrrr. I went and bought 6 tpms sensors from Extreme terrain. Advertised as good for the 2021-2024 models (so after June 2021. Mine was built 15 June 2021....)
You guessed it, no joy with any of them.
Royally annoyed...

Do you have the tire fill alert in your assistant options? That will tell you real quick what sensors you need. Mine was literally built on the day of the change and it took some effort to figure out what sensor it was.

I'll trade you. I have four of the older sensors that worked with my 2020 Overland. I need to pull them out of my wheels and swap them for some that will work with my 2023 High Altitude.

Interesting idea, but at this rate the mounting and unmounting is going to cost So much more than the flipping sensors !

That's a big part of the problem. I may just run them with no TPMS readings. Sam's Club said it would be about $40 per wheel for a new sensor and installation. Discount Tire quoted me about $65 per wheel for the same (and I bought the tires from them).
