I got a full size CVT Shasta with extended fly and an annex room. Its great for when i have family members or friends out and we are just camping and hiking. But for my solo or group run to actually offroad. I don't like the weight and how high up it sits on my Mojave. I'm fairly rugged (young AF), and i prefer to hammock camp anyway as RTT mattress just suck for my bony ass. The issue being there isn't always a tree and I'd like a quicker tarp setup. My main push for this is weight saving, not spending 3-4k for a ultra light rack and tent setup just for me, and being able to mount my 37in spare in the bed prerunner style (cool points and ease of access). The issue I have is that the only hammock stand on market for the hitch that seems to have proper spread and a tarp hook up, is 600 bucks. I know far cheaper then my other options but thats a lot for some aluminum hanging off my hitch. So I just wanna know if anyone else has it and how was the mileage? I have an Easthills hammock setup already but i'll have to see if it fits or not and then downsize or upsize accordingly. TIA

There's this option from Kammok.
https://kammok.com/products/outpost-portable-hammock-stand

I see some less expensive hitch mount hammocks on Amazon too.
I saw that and I think its the most solid for more extreme weather as you have a full frame to strap the tarp too. But This would require me to have some type of full height system on the truck. which automatically adds another 500-1000 end price. I don't think my half rack would cut it.

You think a temporary uni-strut extension off your half rack would support it? You could make it a quick connect.

I think it would mount to the half rack just fun. My concern is that they only showed half racks on full size trucks and the height was fine. But considering how much smaller the gladiator is i fear the extension would need to be way to tall and sketchy. I'll definitely keep it in mind tho. just gotta to more research and get some measurments.

I stole the idea from this guy on YouTube. You're right though, he's mounted pretty high since it's on a Go Fast camper.

damn! that awning is sick. but that does confirm how low the hammock sits even on a full height connection. granted he could pull it tighter but that wouldn't work for me. I wonder if i can just build my own?

I tried out a McLean Metalworks Hitch Stand last year using an ENO Single. It was comfortable, but the set up time to me was equal to that of a ground tent and I did not like loosing the utility of the tailgate. On the plus side you do not need to worry about level ground. I've since installed a GFC Topper with a tent enclosure and will be using that this season.

I love sleeping in hammock but I like the idea of being higher off the ground. I haven’t found the unicorn solution yet but I do like those hitch mounts. I have a free standing portable hammock stand that I have a full tent setup for and it works pretty well. I really want to be in the roof though!
