Trying to start organizing the garage better and needed a way to store the top that didn't take up as much floor space and didn't need two people to safely move around.
I got searching the web, saw TopLiftPros had a remover and "drive into" storage over the hood, which looks solid but didn't want to shell out that kinda cash atm.
A few vendors had some metal/wood versions and after getting an idea of how those work I hit the paper.
Ended up getting the following:
(1) 2x4x10 cut in half
(1) 2x4x8 cut into (2) 25" and (4) 10" with ~6" left over
(4) heavy duty 3" casters
(1) Roll of 3M adhesive heavy .12" felt.
(1) Box of large headed 2 7/8" wood screws
The 10" peices were stacked in twos, screwed together.
Laid out the 5' board, put the 25" on them at the ends and screwed through the casters into both boards, nice and clean (pre-drilled to prevent split)
Screwed the 10" peices to the tope side of the "rear" board.
Felted the contact points (and some areas I thought were contact points, whoops)
Cheap project (under $60) and completed under 30 minutes.
My casters are larger and heavier duty than needed and the felt was a higher quality. It could have probably been done for ~$35 if you wanted.
Anyway, rolls around smoothly, holds the top rather securely so it serves the purpose!
