Yeah, and AMC people used to drill and tap the oil gallery by the lifters and run a tube to the rear oil gallery believing it would prevent rear main failure - what a joke.On the old DOHC Honda motorcycles with cam oil issues, they would just modify it to run external oil lines from the bottom end directly to the head instead of messing with the stock passages.
The problem was lack of oil RETURN to the pan. All they did was nothing because a hydraulic system like that runs equal pressure through the whole system. An engineer friend proved it by building a high performance engine, putting it on the dyno and tapped into the oil galleries in several places, including to the rear main. Pressure was equal through the whole engine.
The solution - baffle the pan, or add a 6th quart of oil. (or clean, polish and open up the oil RETURN passages from the heads to the sump)
The added line did nothing but make the owner feel really good.
