Well I found out which one it was late last night... Drivers side intake cam. Do you call this one the Left Intake Camshaft? (Drivers perspective).

Always go by sitting in the driver's seat, regardless. So even in Australia, the left bank is the left bank. And that's bank 2 on these.
Bank 1 is the right side - again, sitting in the driver's seat.

Since there are Aussies and Brits here - I try to make sure if I use "driver" and "passenger", I'm clear on left or right.

Short - that's bank 2, the LEFT bank.

2020 seems to be the worst year.
Right side, or bank 1 is most typical - the greater majority, but there are some lefts thrown in now and then.

That's good to know, thank you.

Well the good news is this is not the part on 12,000 backorder with no lead time in sight! I actually had that one replaced last year and I was very worried that it already failed again.

I should be able to have the parts to put her back together next week. What I don't know is do you typically replace the lash adjusters each time? I'm getting all the gaskets as well.

I am reading that I need these tools as well for assembly/disassembly;
Can anyone confirm?

If it was mine, and this is how I operate on engine repairs and builds, especially if it's me doing it and not a dealer - since the exhaust lash adjusters are where the oil comes from that shoots to the intake cam lobes, I probably would.
And since there's been a TSB for later year intake lash adjusters, i'd be tempted to do those as well. I'd check the exhaust followers (rockers) to make sure that opening for the oil to shoot at the intake lobs is clear, clean, no flashing or other debris or build-up.

Correct you would need a Left Intake Cam kit since cams alone are no longer available. This can be found here https://parts.allmoparparts.com/oem...-v6-68661146aa?c=bD0xMSZuPVNlYXJjaCBSZXN1bHRz

These are on backorder as well but not as bad as the Right sides. There are 1300 backorders with inventory incoming.

As for the tools you need this kit https://www.amazon.com/CTA-Tools-12...cphy=9030108&hvtargid=pla-2281435179538&psc=1

They fluctuate from 200-250 fyi

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you,
- Benny

There you have it - not sure where the other posts claiming 12,000 on back order! Even the dealer I talked to today about getting a cam for a forum member said they were actually trickling in - they have 5 on order for various FCA vehicles and they've been coming in every few days.

In other words- they ARE coming in......... but you'll wait in line for those which are ordered for existing tear-downs or diagnosed issues with customers waiting.

The Right side intake kits 68661147AA are beyond 12k backorders.

this is the one I was referring to where it was said the driver's side (our left side or bank 2) was 12,000 on back order.

I could believe the right side being that deep -

and 12,000 intake-driver camshafts on backorder!
The right side has the majority of the failures.
The left side not so much- happens but not as much.

Well, if nothing else from this thread I have a better understanding of of how my responses about ESS went sideways. Yikes...

Oil, whether engine or fryer or whatever thins as heat breaks it; full agreement on viscosity loss over time, not that you need validation.

Anyone that thinks oil thickens with use has never changed oil from an engine that went an extra couple thousand miles between changes.

I’m stationed in Belgium and have an appt on Tuesday to have the local Jeep dealer look at my 2024 JTW with 8K miles on it for a pretty bad valve tick.

I’m praying they don’t need to replace the whole intake camshaft on the right (US passenger) side.

We need to ship the truck back to the states the first or second week of July. I’m not optimistic that this will get sorted before then 🫠

Yes - oil doesn't thicken.

It thins.
The best oils thin less than others.
Some lose very little viscosity (but it's STILL a loss - which is to YOUR point - it absolutely doesn't thicken)

Depending on the oil base, additives and so on, how much it loses will vary, but it loses, not gains.

Some engines rip oil to shreds - I think one was mentioned by the motor oil geek - Porsche has an engine with a lot of chains and the design of that engine shreds the molecules and causes oils to thin out faster than many other engines.

Ya I got it backwards. I’ll go back and change my original post so people don’t get confused.

Reporting in as another person who ran into the same issue. Jeep has already been sitting for a month. I guess this means I am SOL?

One dealer here says they are trickling in some every week but those coming in go to the vehicles already apart and sitting waiting. . some for over a month. Get on a list. Don't sit back.

The part is already on order, the only feedback I have received is it's on backorder with no ETA, so I did more digging and found threads here - seems this truly is a widespread issue on at least of couple of years.

Mine is a '21 willys sport, first and only vehicle I've ever bought new. With this experience I'm not so confident to keep it after it's repaired.

2020 and 2021 "appear to be" the worst, at least by my observations and reports back in 2020.

I do NOT know if this is true - it's purely "what I read" in another post, there's nothing to support it, not a thing, it's a single post, but that post suggested that part of the backorder issue is that FCA was switching to a new supplier - now, what does that mean IF, and it's a big IF, if that is true?
Does that mean for the blanks? For the final product? For the machine work?
Who knows! But if there's a lick of truth to it, it would explain a lot.
Again, ONLY BASED ON ONE PERSON'S POST!!!!!!!!!!
