I'm in the market again for an RTT. I have my eye on Sterling Adventure Company, specifically their Uinta tent. Anyone have any experience with them? I've found some good reviews online, but not much and haven't found anything even slightly negative which always raises suspicions. I've talked through emails a couple times and they assured me they have tents in stock and will ship immediately.

I ordered an Alto Mini through 4x4 Colorado while at MOORE Expo in March with a 6-8 week lead time. I'm still waiting on said tent, have been told twice now that arrival estimates are pushed back, and I'm seeing reports of folks still waiting that had ordered tents back in November and December. Getting in contact with them has been impossible, I've been calling multiple times a day for a week now and can't get anyone to answer, emails go unanswered, bookface messages go unanswered. Even the independent sales rep whom I worked with at MOORE to order the tent has said communications have become almost non-existent after two 4x4Co employees recently quit, and it took him a week to get a hold of anyone and wasn't able to get much of an update. Last "somewhat" update puts my tent MAYBE getting to me by the end of August, which at this point is cutting it way to close to a trip 2nd week of Sept and I can't take the chance, so I'm trying to cancel that order because I no longer have any confidence or trust in the company.

I'll start by saying I have zero experience with that company specifically.

That said...question for you. What is it about their tents specifically that has you interested? At first glance, I dunno that I would think they were much more than a dropshipper for the same tents that everyone else sells. Mainly just leveraging their ability buy in bulk. Nothing wrong with that. But I dunno if I would prefer their option over any of the others. It's not like it used to be in the pre-overlanding craze. We have had (and used) maybe a dozen roof tents over the years. Anything from the OG James Baroud stuff to the obviously dropshipped OVS softtops, with Roofnests and CVT options sprinkled in as well. I currently have an Ironman hardshell on the off-grid trailer and it's been completely fine. It no doubt rolled off the same factory floor as all the others do now.

Regardless, sucks you're dealing with it, and I wish I had something more relevant to add other than what is essentially an Ironman 4x4 recommendation, lol.

Theres only a few brands that I can find that have that particular style tent. Aluminum shell, side opening clamshell, between 60 and 65 inches width (nets you close to queen size matress), and under 12" overall height. And under 200lbs is a huge bonus.

Honestly it's between Sterling Uinta and TopOak Vision, leaning towards TopOak based on price and the larger amount of reviews I can find. I just like the idea of Sterling being a family owned US based company.

Fair. I guess the point I was getting at was that although they may very well be a family-owned, US-based company, the tent they are offering is still manufactured in mostly the same manner and facility as the majority of the others are these days. And again, that's not a slight on them, just an observation that sometimes gets lost when people see the website marketing for a lot of these overlanding specific outfits that have popped up over the last decade or so.

I wouldn't have any issues ordering from them if the product on the page is what you're after. Good luck!
