Alright to start off, I am brand new to the Jeep community! I am super excited about this vehicle especially coming from a mini Cooper JCW.

2021 Jeep Gladiator Overland 6MT V6 pentastar engine (21k miles)

I bought it a week ago with a bunch of mods already on it:
Aftermarket / ASE-Certified Modifications
Performance & Drivetrain
  • Mopar 2-inch Fox suspension lift kit
  • Yukon Gear 4.56 ring and pinion gear upgrade (front and rear)
  • K&N cold-air intake system
Wheels & Tires
  • Fuel Syndicate 17×9 wheels
  • Yokohama Geolandar X-AT 295/70R17 (≈34-inch)
My only issue with it after driving it 500 miles (I drove 300miles to get it). I hear a rattle when I am accelerating around 3000-3500rpm in 2nd gear and when I push in the clutch about an inch the noise goes away.

I have taken it to the dealership and they told me a bolt was lose, I went 2min down the road and the noise still was there. I was told by the service manager that it would be the throwout bearing, but it would have to get worse... I don't understand, why would it need to get worse??

It is currently covered under recall warranty for the next 9 months. Do I just wait it out and hope it get worse for the recall?? Please help.
Should I worry about driving it??

If anyone can help and provide some peace of mind that would be great!

Throw out bearing.
Congrats on the JT with 4.56 gears.
TOB should whir when the clutch is disengaged or depressed. OP states is goes away when depressing the clutch.

I cant hear the videos on the PC I'm using but TOBs typically make a whir or higher pitched noise, not a rattle in my experience.

Does the noise sound like its inside the cab? I'd check the clutch pedal assembly if so, otherwise perhaps the service manager mean the input shaft bearing. Which would make noise with the clutch engaged and pedal out.

Thank you!!! I absolutely love it!

That's what I figured. Should it be covered by the recall warranty?

The dealership said it had to get worse...

I don't understand why.

I don't hear a whir when the clutch is depressed. it goes away just when I tap the clutch.

it sounds like it is coming from below the drivers floor boards. I guess it could be the clutch pedal assembly, what would I look for?

I couldn't say unfortunately since I'm not that familiar with the JT manual transmission. I'd check any attachment points or bolts that were visible on the pedal assembly itself. Wiggle it by hand so that you're closer to the pedal area and see if you can hear anything.

The JT manual is a cable linkage manual, so rattle noise In my experience is less common on cables as opposed to direct mounts, which can just rattle and resonate thru the shifter.

I've had manuals all my life and replaced TOBs before, they're generally not a major concern and it would explain the managers lax attitude if that was really case. All the TOBs I've encountered either chirped when the clutch was disengaged or just kinda whirred like a voltage whine, a kind of gentle higher pitch noise. The concern would be that if it makes noise when engaged and while driving they'd want to rule out the input bearing, as that would be not so good if it failed.

I'd bug them more for sure. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable specifically on the JT manual will chime in shortly.

Alright, I will definitely take a look at the pedal assembly! Thank you for the advice.

The noise does happen when the clutch is engaged and driving but only at 3000rpm to 3500rpm. No more, no less. and it doesn't happen every time. I would say 1/3 times or 1/5 times.

Im going to talk to the dealership I bought it from, they are a Buick/gmc though. So im not sure what they would say with all of the jeep quirks

2022 manual JT here as well. I’ve got 18,xxx miles on mine and it has done this for me from day 1. Only in 2nd or 3rd gear when under a decent load (like going up a hill) and it goes away when I put the slightest pressure on the clutch pedal-comes back if I release. Doesn’t cause me any issues and I’ve learned to live with it for now. Definitely doesn’t sound like a TB to me. And not transmission chatter since my NV4500 in my dodge chatters slightly anytime the engine is running.

Maybe it’ll cause an issue for me in the future. If it does I’ll go aftermarket clutch. No clue what it is though. Weird that it only happens around gears 2-3 under load.

Yes!!! The same thing! Mine will do it a little more often than going up a hill, but I am just stumped. I tried looking under it and wiggling things around, but couldn't find anything apparent.

The only reason why I would like to get it fixed is that it only has 21k miles and I just paid 40k for it. The dealer knows about it. Have you noticed any other issues with yours?

Mine does it too. 20 with 60k 6mt. Has done it since I got it with 37k. Some call it pinging, some call it the metal bracket holding the wiring harness on the o2 sensor rubbing.. recently I checked my windshield bolts and both sides.. the outermost were about to fell out. I have since tightened them and haven’t heard it since. Previously it’s been months since I’ve heard it. I’ve heard it at various points of 87, 89 and 93 octan

Like many others have said, it seems to be temperature related. Whenever I’ve heard it, it’s always been after a long drive or when it’s hot and all warmed up.

I think it’s either o2 wiring bracket or loose windshield bolt.

Alright I will definitely check on that o2 sensor bracket rubbing.

I just checked my windshield and you were right! the two outer ones were loose!! (not super lose but I did have to tighten them.)

I will see if that was the issue shortly, Thanks!

With the temp heating up, I too mostly hear it when it's warm, but I have heard it cold too.

Haha. I’ll check my windshield as well. Thankfully it sounds relatively not a big deal if you are at 60k and still going strong. We shall see!

Yeah man there’s tons of threads here and the wrangler forum all complaining about the same thing. For what’s its worth, this is my 3rd penta and the best running of them all. My
Previous 2 both saw cams a couple years after my ownership (still see mycarfax record emails)

Windshield wasn't the issue, but glad someone pointed it out, because it could have been a rattle in the future.

Is there a fix to the issue?? I haven't found one yet!

Im glad that it is the best one you've had! I plan on keeping this for a while!

I purchased the 7 year/100k mile warranty just because of the cam issue, we will see what happens!
