Oh wow, i've never actually seen anything like that. Would drive me nuts, I'd be washing it out for hours trying to get every bit of salt off it.

I’m not trying to be a dick, but A/T tire reviews are worthless when brand new. Any new modern A/T is good when new. General tires have a garbage rep for a reason. Please report back in 30K miles.

Actually, I've never heard of a "garbage rep" and yeah, mine were fine over 30K miles. I had them on my 2020 for 14,000 miles then on my 22 for 27,000 miles. they were still great in snow and ice conditions. 14,000 + 27,000 miles - wait, that's 40K miles.

It's Iowa, the roads get nasty, and they handled plowing well, good traction.
Never heard anyone complain of them - and I ran them on 2 JTs and was totally happy to the end. They did get more noisy with time, but then, no more than the other tires I've had on Jeeps .

They’re like Coopers. Just not on par with premium brands. They’re not as bad as the cheap Chinese tires, but not as good as premium brands. The main issue that I’ve had are they don’t stay in balance for shit and get super noisy when they wear. They’re built to loser tolerances for important things like road force. I’m a tire snob. Every time I buy a super premium brand I always regret it later and end up replacing them an it cost me more money in the long run.

My neighbor and I would disagree with the balance but for sure. He drives that car everywhere.
I'd take them any day over the Rubicon take-offs I had. Couldn't get rid of those falken tires fast enough. CRAPPY tires in wet and snow. I'd go back to general tires any day after my research and experience I and my neighbor haves had. 3 years on his car, still smooth as silk on the highway, and almost no weights to balance them

Remember, I'm olde, grumpy, and smell like moldy Rutabagas.

Nice weather, I run KO2's, on nice rims, and being a cheep bastage, I don't want the mess the purty rims up with New Yawk State's often overly heavy road salt.

DSCF4692.webp

In the winter time, I'd flop the stock rims back on with the stock tires, Bridgestone's I think.

I don't remember what they were, it's said that memory is the second thing to go, I don't even remember what the first thing is anymore.

Last year the skins were getting thin, and were not fun in the snow, and sought an aggressively treaded replacement.

Sadly, driven mostly by aesthetics and some reviews, I picked the Grabber X3, the red letters looked snazzy, had good reviews for road noise, and wear.

What the hay.

A HEAVY tire, I told my tire guy they are said to be tough to balance, when done, he said they were not bad.

DSCF5323.webp

Took a hit on the gas mileage a bit, with that aggressive a tread, I thought they'd be noisy, nopers.

A Nor' Easter yesterday, funny, no colored eggs or chocolate wabbits.

Rain first, then freezing rain, then snow.

A bumper car day, blue-haired-white-knuckle-types driving at 2 MPH with their hazards on, the entitlement minded, driving too fast for conditions, while they put on their makeup, and played with their cell phones.

Accidents and cars in ditches.

So, I played.

Could I get them to step out, yeah if I did something stooooopid.

They stopped surprisingly well.

My neighbor, who was following me in his Gladiator, had to skirt around me as I stopped at a stop sign, he was sliding.

I've read some mixed reviews on them here, and I thought I'd throw my two pennies in before they're gone.

I'm happy with them.

The olde, grumpy guy, that smells like rotten melons, is out.
I have been running the C-rated 315/75/17 (35x12.5) for about 30k miles now on my JLUR. They've been outstanding in everything, from rain to snow and they've had every kind of off-roading you can imagine...mud, rocks, snow, sand....everything. They do start out quieter than any mud tire I've experienced, but that will go away as they wear. They're as loud as any now, but they still perform the same. I've got a ton of tread life left, too. (5-tire rotation), so I'd imagine I'll get 70k or more out of them.

The ride is excellent and the C-rated version of the 315 size is smooth riding but also handles well. It's perfect for a Wrangler or Gladiator. I'm not a fan of E-rated tires on Jeeps. Jeeps are not heavy duty trucks. They handle well in the dry, too.

The red letters are super cool, too. But all the off-roading has darkened them a bit. They are stickers, but they can take a hell of a beating. In fact, the whole tire can take a beating. I've never had a puncture, and again, they have been put to the test!

I'd buy them again in a heartbeat. @Discount Tire gave me a great price, too, as I recall, and had to search high and low for them. Of course, the supply chain might be better now than it was then.

Here they are in October on the 3rd trip to Moab with my son at the wheel and about 30k on them. Red letters have taken a beating. They are still there, but much subdued. They've been rubbed, scrubbed, beaten, and through more than I can describe. I may contact General to see if there is a chemical that can get them clean without harm.

And this was when they were new. LOVE the red letters.

It's important to buy the right tires for your application. Too many people simply buy tires based on looks and then wonder why they aren't happy with their vehicle's performance. Tires play one of - if not the - most important role in how a vehicle rides, drives, and survives.

With that said, load range C tires are certainly appropriate for many (if not most) Jeeps out there, but that doesn't mean it's universally the right pick for everyone. For example, I've been using the load range D Yokohama Geolandar M/T G007 tires in a 37x12.50R17 size under my heavy diesel Gladiator, and I've reached their load carrying limits when towing my travel trailer with a load of camping gear in the bed. The 3525lb. max load per tire certainly seems fine per specs, but inflated to its max of 50psi there's still a lot of sidewall squish in those circumstances. To increase anti-sway stability and reduce casing flex (thereby reducing heat generation, rolling resistance, and tread wear) I would love to be able to run the higher pressures that a load range E tire would allow. The heavier-duty sidewalls of an E-rated tire also helps resist trail damage.

Obviously, an E-rated tire would have some serious tradeoffs on a TJ. But under my 6400lb. JT that gets used like a truck on the road and off, a D-rated tire is adequate and an E-rated tire will be my next set.

Yea General Tires is just Continental Tire, not made in the usa anymore and is a german based company of all things. I have no idea how they are today, but you are 100% right, report back at 10,15,20k miles because that's when they'll be worn funny, making noise, etc.

Should be about four years, as I will run these only in the winter.

I rotate them on reinstall.

Stay tuned!

Krickey, the stock tires, lasted six years.

Were they Bridgestone's?

I don't remember.

Did I share that memory is the second thing to go?

I've got over 30k. Read my post. These tires are fantastic.

And btw, OP, the 315's in a C load rating are actually light compared to others in that size. 64 pounds, IIRC. For a given size, the load rating sometimes impacts the weight. No need for anything more than a C rated tire on a Jeep. Sometimes you can't find anything less than an E, though. I've got Kenda Klever AT2's on my Gladiator and they only come in E range for the 35" sizes. But they ride smoother than any E I have driven. But still no comparison to the ride on the Grabber X3's in C range.

My Wrangler is in Colorado waiting for Jeep to figure out new software since they screwed it up with the last manual transmission recall. When I get it back, I will measure the tread depth. I'll probably take them to 70 or 75k and sell them to a used tire dealer still with some tread on it.

Mine do take some significant weight to balance them. But they do balance. They were smooth at 85mph on the way to Moab. My son worked at a tire shop and he was surprised at how much weight a couple of them too, to balance. But he was impressed with how they rolled.

I'm a big fan of these Grabber X3's. I just want to find a way to clean those red letters. It could be that the red is just worn off, though.

I wish they had the red letters on the AT version.

Yep...I've got E's on my Gladiator...not by choice, but it's the way it worked out when paying $80 each for a $350 tire. LOL. (That's another story). They do just fine. No complaints. But C's ride softer, which is my preference. But C's will handle the max payload and towing of a Gladiator, so they're good enough. I have no doubt these C-rated X3's on my Wrangler would perform just fine on the Gladiator when towing and hauling. When you can find them. Sometimes that's tough. Most tires in the 35" x 17" size are E rated.

It's not just the ride, it's the weight. Most C rated tires in the same 35" size are lighter. (Not always). I like as little unsprung weight as possible and lighter weight tends to be slightly easier on the suspension and drive train. Probably a very minor difference, but I drive my Jeeps for many years and many miles, so it's important to me.

But I'm stuck with a fine set of E-rated Kenda's on my JT and I love them. They kicked ass in Moab. And in the snow, and everywhere else.

The Grabber X3 is made in the USA, FYI.

They have plants in Ohio, NC, KY, and Illinois.

Mine say Made in the USA right on them. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

You are right....they do get noisy. Just as noisy as any mud tire. No way around it. It annoys the heck out of me, but there's no mud tire made that won't do that. But they were quiet for a good while, maybe somewhere around 15k to 20k they started making noise. I do prefer an AT, but these are the best mud tires I've had or driven, by a good margin. I've had BFG KM's, KM2's, and have driven Falcon MT's extensively. They were all good, but this is the only MT I've had that is good in the snow and rain.

And the noise doesn't bother me when my son is driving it and I'm in my Gladiator with quiet AT's. LOL! He doesn't care, either!
