Hi Folks. I took my trailer out for an overnight trip yesterday. Thought you all would like a few pics. This is in Northern Nevada not too far from a Navy Electronic Warfare and Bombing Range. I love this state.

Where in Northern Nevada is that? I know of the blast site closer to Vegas. How rough was the road?

It's about 25 miles from Fallon. If you Google Project Shoal it pops right up in Google maps. Then you cruise a couple of miles further east and you can explore Dixie Valley.

The military trains extensively out there so you will see all sorts of cool stuff.

My daughter and I are heading out to Berlin Icthyosaur State park, and then the geographic center of Nevada, down Monitor Valley on the 21st.

East of Fallon. As mentioned, search for Project Shoal on Google Maps and it will show up. The road is pretty good. The Navy maintains part of it because it is access to one of the EWR radar sites. Years ago there was a concrete monument at the site. Some miners from the then active Scheelite Mine blew it up while playing with dynamite.

Getting to where I looked over the salt flats, west of the monument, will need a high clearance 4x4.

I've spent a lot of years roaming this area. In another life I was stationed at the EWR as a radar operator/technician and site supervisor. My radar was in front of the center scoring tower on the bombing range. An airshow almost every day. There is nothing like an A-6E doing the wall of fire with 28 500lb bombs or an A-7 or F-14 doing gun runs.

No first few years I ran the Nike radar. It was used as a reference radar because it was so accurate. Later I ran the AN/GPQ-T8. It was a triple A radar that ran three different frequency bands to simulate different Soviet radar.

I was there 77-83. It's changed a lot since I was there. Now they have actual Soviet era stuff.

Yeah, the Long Track has been operational for at least 12 years. They had a new height finder radar that I hadn't seen before, so I have to look it up.
