I chose my installer, not the system. I’d been working with him for years and knew he’d do a great job on my Jeep. I’m particular. He’s a viper dealer. The one complaint I have about viper is the cellular module. It works great if you’re in a strong AT&T area. Crappy in areas that aren’t.
AT&T ..less bars in more places. Yeah Baby !!:clap::clap::giggle:

I had remote start from the factory, but not from my phone as I have the 7” head unit. 2021. So I added the viper remote start as well, and do it from my phone. But when remote starting, I haven’t had issues with it shutting off when entering. I also have mine set to 30mins. I’ve used the key fob start to test that it works, with I think three lock presses, but prefer the phone method now.
I'm interested in how you are able to REMOTE START then open any door and put things in it or make another trip back in the house for something before hopping in the vehicle and its still running. The 30min run timer prematurely gets killed within a minute as far as I can tell if any door is opened and the brake pedal is not pressed WITH the doors closed.

That I can’t say for sure I’ve tried. Definitely not on purpose. But I will as soon as I get it back, and will let you know how it behaves.

These only have a 15min timer not 30min. Believe me I have tried it many many times. I dont know about opening the door . I use the app and start it and even use the app to unlock the door before I get in . And if I use the fob to remote start which is super rare . I usually walk out and get in and leave.
I always always always let my motor idle before I take off. If it isnt idling at 650 I wait . I have done this for 5 yrs. Some may argue It isnt necessary , But it is an aluminum block . I come from V-Twin aluminum motorcycle motors with steel components inside an aluminum block, if you start a V-Twin motorcycle block and dont let it warm and just take off ripping from cold your going to shorten its life significantly. I feel like the same translates here.

It’s the viper that gives you longer than 15. It’s configurable. I have mine at 30.

The runtime timer is configurable by the installer with software. I asked for 30min timer and he made it so. Only thing is he can't change the fact that the Jeep requires that once you open the door you only have seconds, maybe a minute, to close the door and put your foot on the brake pedal in order for the engine to remain running. If you read back on this thread you can see all the other details I was contending with. I don't want to pay for a subscription and my system on my old diesel truck is leaps and bounds better than this new system in every way as far as being user friendly. I know of no other alarm system to compare it too since bother were Clifford/Viper. I trusted installer but even he was surprised how limited he was with this one.

The Jeep remote start allows you to open and close the drivers door and come back within the allotted time without having to press start.

Only the driver's door? So I can't get door for my wife and load dog and kids in the back seat then get myself in without it turning off? Seems to shut off within a minute of a door opening. Otherwise if no doors opened it will stay on for the 30min runtime.

You can open any door without issue.

Can you elaborate on how it can be done? Cause my installer said it can't be done with Viper DS4. Which just plugs in inline with factory harness and uses factory settings.

I remote start, I double press the unlock button, I open any door and I can close it repeatedly and the truck remains running until the remote start times out or I press the start button. Pretty simple and easy. I don't know what the issue is with the Viper DS4.

I find this hard to believe. My wife's factory 2018 JL remote start behaves the same way. If you open a passenger door like in my case all 4 doors one at a time, wife, kid #1, kid#2, then by the time I open the driver door it shuts off, usually by door number #3 because im buckling in my 3yr old. This is inside 5mins. Its not immediate but its not the full runtime timer.

Maybe it was changed for the Gladiator by 20.

I started the Jeep. Opened all of the doors and the Jeep stayed running.

I think you’re both right. I think the viper aftermarket changes the behavior. I think it does that on purpose since it’s not using the factory remote start. It unlocks it, starts it, then locks and rearms it. So not as nice for the scenario you’re describing. One thing I really do like about it is that if I restart with the viper, the rear usb ports and inverter turn on during prestart. Comes in handy when I’ve got a power station plugged into it. Or the kids’ usb seat heaters.
