I'm moving from Payson AZ to the Williamsburg area of Virginia. Can anyone tell me of local gladiator groups, trail groups, best places to ride, best places to camp particularly in that area. I've hiked the Appalachian Trail so I know western Virginia fairly well around skyline. And I'm quite sure that the trails in the West are a whole lot different than they are in Virginia.

Years ago, probably 20 or more, there used to a club called Middle Peninsula Jeep Association, Inc.
Think back to the old bulletin boards before forums. There were a lot of local guys as well as military in the club. If any of them are still around, maybe they can point you in the right direction.

I'm from PA...but I will say..... There's not a whole lot of areas that are OPEN to freely go offroad like there would be in AZ.
I'd say, in most cases.... it's National Forest areas, hunting grounds, or private property. There might be some random public roads in & around but they're public roads....probably flat dirt roads that your prius could drive on.

Look for pay to play areas...or designated offroad parks.

If you find areas to go that aren't an offroad park, make sure it's legal to be there, get permission from the land owner, and/or make sure you get any permits that are required.

Yea…. You were spoiled. If we had land here like you do in AZ, I’d probably still have my built YJ and I’d still be hitting the trails. Unfortunately, the eastern side of the country doesn’t have the open land. Lots of forests & moutains, but protected for hunting or parks. Great for hunting & hiking. I’d love to find a nice cabin somewhere in the woods - but even that’s probably impossible to find.

Look around…maybe you’ll find something…or someone… or a group.

In October, head over to the Overland Expo in Arrington. I'm sure you will meet some locals who can give you some good info. I've been to this event a few times and it's a lot of fun.
