Ive been running them in a 37 for a year and they've been awesome!

Ive been running them in a 37 for a year and they've been awesome!

Good to hear!!! Going for a 33x12.5 for the wife’s 4Runner and if they survive out here I’ll spring for 38x11.5 for my next set. By then she may be built up enough to do some 35x??. Not sure if she’s going to stay on 12.5 or will go for 11.5 for clearance issues on that clearanced IFS setup. We’ll have to see how it behaves and how well built she is to resist breakage.

I’m stopping at 38”. Based on what I’ve seen and read those, 3”, and a good set of armor should get me through the Rubicon if I play it smart. If it passes that test that’s pretty much my epitome of what I really want to wheel and camp in. At least that’s one decision I can easily make. As far as everything that goes into the build well…….

The thing that interests me the most in these tires is that they are 40x12.5x17s. Most 40s I see are 40x13.5x17, so these won't cause as much poke or binding in the steering and are likely lighter than most 40s.
I can't wait to check them out the next time I get to see you. I may be on 42s right now, but that won't be forever... I'll go back to 40s at some point.

I got through the rubicon with 3” and 37’s. You’d kill it with 38’s.

Id imagine it will be about the same as the 37x12.5, but the bigger tire has less rolling resistance so maybe slightly better on the move. Isnt it the width AND the weight that fight you turning at slower speeds? Way too many factors to experimentate with. Time to upgrade the steering.

Wait, what?! How much do they weigh, say compared to my 79lb 37x12.5’s?

The 37x12.50s are 76lbs each, the 40x12.50s are 94lbs each.

12.50 saves 15lbs vs 13.50s

12.50 saves 15lbs vs 13.50s

That’s a thing. Don’t get me wrong. 95 is heavy for a gutless v6 that weighs 6200lbs. But that’s still pretty great for a 40. And yours will weigh so much less after you snip its front, and tuck its rear.
