Got myself a bed extender to carry my 15ft canoe on my Gladiator, and it worked great when the tailgate was down, but i wanted to have the tailgate up to store all my other stuff whilst going canoeing. Had my buddy do a little post engineering for me and will post a couple photos tomorrow showing the difference it makes (paint drying tonight).

Thanks for the pics. I have been thinking about getting one of these for a 13 ft kayak. It appears from the photos on Amazon that the circled section can be flipped to provide more height. Do you know if it would clear the top of the tailgate in that position? If so, would you also mind letting me know how far out from the bumper the extender protrudes?

Do you have a source or link?
Thanks.

Yep it would go quite a bit above the tailgate in the horizontal position(almost at the roof level), but I just wanted it slightly above and that's why I just added the top bar in the vertical position so as to keep the extra length. And from what I can see it would clear the bumper by about an inch. Hope this helps.

Btw. It is almost at the roof level in Lowe's position. Would go quite a ways past it if top insert was fully extended.

Thank you so much for these pics. I was hopeful it wasn’t that high, so looks like I will need to do some modding also. Your setup is exactly what I think I will do.
No problem, it's a pleasure to be able to help. To be honest, because of my extreme overhang, I will probably only use my modified version when I have the top off and also wanna carry the canoe. Otherwise I'll put the canoe on the vertical option of the carrier and on the roof rack(which I will buy soon). Happy paddling !
