I went with black fenders on my Punk'N Gladiator. I thought that it was too much orange with the painted ones, and if I scratched a painted fender I would have been pissed. The black are going to look great and I have heard good things about the Chemical Guys' Tire and Trim gel to keep them great.

It is fully a personal choice and all of my jeeps have had the black plastic fenders and now I have the black overland with the match painted fenders. It looks nice but I am thinking about getting the regular black plastic to break up the black a little bit plus the non painted take a bit more of a beating without much notice. So maybe I will wait until the painted fenders can't be buffed out anymore.

I’d happily trade regular plastic for painted black plus some cash when I pick up my truck next week, only about an hour from you

I'm still debating body colored or black on my Hydro Blue Rubicon, that is if I can ever order it! I'm really leaning towards the black, just for the function. Like said in an earlier post, they are shelves on the side of your Jeep, and will get used as such.

It's literally a shelf on the side of the Jeep, it will be used that way so no worrying about paint getting messed up when you or others put whatever on it.

THIS! I going with non-painted on my ordered JT.

The JL I just sold had the painted fender flares, two previous JKs did not. I was always extra carful with the painted flares, but still managed to get some minor scratches mostly from debris thrown up from the front tire. The black flares on the JL and JT are a different material or finish then the JK flares, do not know if better or worse for fading. I maintained the JK flairs with 303 Aerospace Protectant to prevent fading (prevent/restore not stop).

Although If you get painted flares it would be less expensive and a bolt-on procedure to switch to non-painted flares, going from non-painted to painted would be more difficult and expensive swap.

There is not a definitive answer for which flare is the best choice for you; painted is going to scratch and non-painted are going to eventually fade.

I think hydro blue is going to be one of those colors that the color matched flares look awesome on.

I went with the black for the same reason as everyone else apart from one. I’m going to replace mine with aftermarket fenders so why pay for the colored fenders when I’m going to replace them anyway. I’m putting that money towards my aftermarket fenders.

Very wise choice if your are going to upgrade the OEM flares anyways.

I really do agree this depends on the color of the truck....I love the black flares on my silver sports s....one question and thought I had was if I can get some black rubicon take off flares aren't they slightly higher and thus a different shape? I like to get that extra clearance

You can actually buy replacement high clearance"Rubicon" fenders, I don't recall the vendor, but they are available.

I'm going with painted on a Hydro Blue Overland. My truck will primarily be used in town. I'm not an off-road type guy, but once in a great while it will be used at my grandparents farm. If I was going to use it off-road more often, I would definitely get the black. If I need a shelf, I'll drop the tailgate.
