Greetings, I ordered my JTRD today. It's granite crystal with premium soft top. I didn't order the body color fender flares, and now I'm concerned I'm going to regret that. I guess I was trying to save a few bucks to make up for paying for the diesel. Does anyone have a granite crystal rubicon with black flares? I've looked and I cannot even find a picture of this combo. What do you all think?
I have the black and prefer it over painted. Easier to hide the rock chips tires will toss at the back fenders vs painted

Really just personal preference. I can see it from a practical view of getting the black fenders due to paint chipping issues. I decided to take my chances because I think the painted fenders give contrast between the tires/wheels and make the latter standout more.

Granite with black flares.

(and something completely different) Granite roof, Sting grey body, black flares (I think it shows how close the Granite and black are)

I like the black fenders with the darker colors and matched fenders with the lighter and brighter colors.

The only real "problem" with black fenders is what happens to them over the course of a few years if they see a lot of sun. They will fade and become something other than black fenders. You can spruce them up, but eventually they will get chalky almost no matter what you do and the product you use to blacken them up will wear off every couple/few weeks. Not a huge deal if you don't mind that but it is something to be aware of.

So for starters, Jeeps are like underwear. Some like boxers, some like briefs, some like those weird-assed spandex ball crushers.
You chose a good vehicle, and once you get it, I am certain you will love it.
Never second guess yourself.

I wish my Snazzberry Sport S had the black flares. I like the contrast. Oh well, I guess I can always swap them down the road.

I own a Sport-S, Granite Metallic with black fenders. I think it looks great. Perfectly matches my Mopar side steps as well.

I went thru the same thing, OP.
My JTRD is due here this week. I KNEW I wanted black top on the white Gladiator. I ordered it with black fenders too, just liked the rugged look more.

Wife now tells me she likes the ones with color matched fenders. I replied: you order color match fenders on your next Audi ? I’m going black on the JTRD.

Bottom line: They look sweet both ways.

I had a Jeep JK and now a Jeep JLUR with painted flares. I’ll be trading in my JLUR for a JTR, and will get painted flares again. For me I like the look of the vehicles either way, but in general I give a slight edge to the matching fenders. I also expect the painted ones to retain their finish longer under the sun than the unfinished black ones.

Some mention preferring the “classic” Jeep look with the black fenders. The original Jeep Willys, however, had painted ones…albeit only in olive drab. :)

For me it's also that the factory black plastic looks so cheap and tacky esp on upper trims like Rubicon. Ex on a black truck the painted black looks way better than plastic black.

Painted black after market metal ones are fine too, I may (unlikely but may) paint my after markets in black but probably body. Still undecided. But no cheap black plastic.

I think my truck is a rare one... I ordered it with the color hard top but black fenders for all the reasons listed above. After driving it for a few weeks and seeing all the shit flung on the leading edge of the rear fender, I'm glad I did!

I thought with the black grill, running boards, and top the fenders being black looked fine.

But it was also in stock and I’m too impatient to order one and wait. i do think it looks good with the sarge green.
