Hey guys, just placed an order for a hydro blue last weekend. In preparation, what are everyone's thoughts on the dealer warranty the finance guys try to push? This will be my first brand new vehicle ever and I plan on keeping this for quite awhile. With that said, are the extended warranty's worth it? I've also heard insurance companies like Geico and USAA offer them and they're cheaper?

I have always thought they are a big rip off, especially as the majority of coverage may cover something, but it would be cheaper to cover it out of pocket. Also concerned about warranties with modifications, nothing to crazy, probably do a 2" lift and 37's but most dealers will blame it on that and void the warranty anyways. Thoughts?

If you do recommend one though, who and why?

Thank you!

This... and I’ll add,

‘I have gotten my money back out of the two I had on my last two new vehicles. Make sure it is good at other places and not just this dealership. Avoid the ‘covers everything’ variants. My last sales guy tried to sell mena paint coverage option. It had a disclaimer, vertical surfaces only. No thanks. I personally only want the drivetrain, mechanicals, electrical.

Do not pay the first price they offer. These are very negotiable. At shop prices these days, a couple of non-trivial repairs puts you in the black.

A good plan can be a good investment unless you have a sound truck and just never need it.
Good luck

A good start to get the best price is to get the internet prices and then use that as a starting point with your dealer if it is something you really want. No sense buying thru the internet if your dealer will give you the same price.

Some dealerships will honor, match or beat the online price but do not get upset if that is not the case...
