Haven't found too many tonneau covers I like. Mostly because some get a little heavy on the side brackets and I am not a fan of the velcro models.

That said, I did see this at Jeep Fest this weekend and they should have them for the Gladiator soon. It is basically this design...

https://realtruck.com/p/bak-revolver-x4-tonneau-cover/

Personally, I would probably paint the underside black so when rolled, looks a little better.

No velcro and a full track lock down both sides - no extra bulk. Seemed pretty solid and I will most likely order when they become available.

Just passing on the info as I know several people are looking around.

Thanks very much. I sent them an email just today asking when their Gladiator products would be released!
I think he said about a month out. Also...I hear they have very good Black Friday deals - if we can wait that long.

There’s a video on YouTube on the Rugged Ridge tonneau covers and a couple of them don’t require the Jeep cargo rails to install there are some mounting holes on the inside of the top of the bed you just pop out the plastic cover and the holes are already threaded so you can mount the Rugged Ridge rail without the Jeep cargo rail

Rugged Ridge has this cover out now. It's basically just like my Truxedo Sentry I had on my 2016 F-150. I wish I could get this one but I don't have the cargo rails and it's needed for any of the Rugged Ridge bed covers because that's what they use to clamp on to.

I saw that one at the show as well. I was not a fan of the velcro system...and it was about 20% more $...

So I installed the Rugged Ridge Hard Rolling on Sunday and can confirm you need the Trail Rail System to install it. They will be making a part down the road 1-6 months that will allow you to install it without the Trail Rail. I can also confirm that it is essentially the same cover as the Truxedo Sentry CT but branded under the Rugged Ridge Brand. They are owned by the same parent company (Truck Hero) and to me it sounded like Rugged Ridge already has the "Jeep" brand recognition so they branded it under Rugged Ridge instead of Truxedo who's main customers are generally all other pickup truck brands. It hasn't been on the truck long but so I can't speak to the long term viability of the Velcro but I actually prefer that the sides don't "fly up" like the stock Mopar Tonneau does. Plus for the same price as the Mopar Soft rolling you are getting a Hard Rolling which is obviously more secure.

I've been in contact with Bak about this cover. My cousin has one on his Tundra and really likes it. They say they are hoping it will be out by the end of the year.

What, if anything, is "wrong" with the factory tonneau cover?

I've never been a fan of them but I "inherited" the factory tonneau cover as it came with my Launch Edition. The truth is, I like it. A lot (and I probably wouldn't have bought one because I assumed it was thin, cheap, used velcro, etc.).

This thing works really well. It latches in place and is secure when the truck is locked. And it looks great IMO. Again, I've never been a fan but this tonneau cover is terrific.

If you haven't looked closely at them you might want to check it out for yourself

Full disclosure I don't own a Gladiator (yet) or the factory bed cover.

The problem with the factory cover is it doesn't accommodate bed racks. I personally want to carry skis and bikes (at least) but still have a covered bed. The factory cover is not a great solution for that.

I agree. I also am not a fan of tonneau covers but the stock Mopar covers are really nice and work well i have never had the sides fly up, it locks into place and stays put. It`s a nice cover.

No cover will accommodate a bed rack and be water proof. There is one or two out there that will "work" but they do not keep water out of the bed of the truck.

You’re right and until/if some company comes up with “the impossible dream” bed cover and rack solution that is waterproof, we’ll be running open bed especially when using a RTT on a rack at least when hitting the trails on overlanding trips.

One of the issues with the shallow depth of the Gladiator’s bed is that It cannot carry any tall items including my Whynter fridge/freezer, 5 gallon water container (maybe it’ll fit), Spectre fuel can (for sure too tall) and even firewood standing up under a bed cover so those are more reasons why I’ll have to run open bed without the bed cover.

It looks like I’ll be using plastic containers to maximize storage while minimizing weight. And I’m ok with that.

I did the Truxedo Sentry and it is a spitting image of the ones noted above. I had the factory tonneau and made it so I could "lock" it, but this one is 100x better with 2 sets of locks to hold it down. It took some time to get adjusted properly, but it worked out. The only thing I had to do differently is drill a couple new mounting holes in the rail at the back, as I have the Builtrite molle racks in there and they would have interfered with those mounting locations on my trail rail system. So far, a happy camper.
