There is also a dealer in Pa that the Jl crowd have been saying gives good deals. Tri County Jeep in Limerick. Closer to you.

I assume you are targeting the four year lease and not the seven year purchase quote?

I do appreciate the advice. But I already understood that this is not the deal I want. Was looking for more advice as far as getting into the Gladiator.
Most of the forum is saying to look for 5-7% below invoice which would be around $2200 to $3000 off. So does this include rebates if doing a buy? Or is this just where it should start anyways? Also on a lease Im told they dont do any rebates except Tread Lightly. Should I be trying to get more on my trade? (didnt seem like they would budge any on that.) Is this pretty standard to get way less that the low end of kbb? Also on rebates, can Military and USAA be combined? Thanks again.
nothing is “standard” on a trade in. It’s dealers choice and KBB is to cars what Zillow is to houses. It’s a vicinity pricing model based on comparables and excluding Certain value adds.
I’ve now watched dozens and dozens of deals done with @spenchey and @Travis@TriCityJeep with rebates other than treadlightly, so again sounds like another lie, or at least a steering.
I think the fact that you even looked twice at this shows the dealership it’s something you’d entertain. That alone hurts your future bargaining power, so id move on to one of the many recommended reputable dealers on this forum. They specialize in out of state deals and could make your life much easier

I heard the same thing a million times. I ended up leasing with a similar, but not quite as bad, situation as the OP. Why? Because it made sense financially.

1) A lease gets rid of negative equity faster than a "buy".
2) A JL or JT holds value better than anything in the nation, which helps point #1 even further.
3) It put me back into a new vehicle with bumper to bumper warranty, which made monthly budgeting easier.
4) It saves time in the long run because waiting until payoff on the old vehicle before ordering the new one would have added years to the big picture.
5) At the end of the day, I simply wanted to. And life is too short.
1) no it doesn’t. You’re now taking whatever is left on your lease residual-wise in principle plus interest that is calculated in your payoff regardless of earlier payment, and then paying interest on that number. Finance interest is lower than lease interest apr-wise so it won’t pay it down faster. It will make it more expensive to do something you could have done yourself by just holding the car you own.
2) yes that is true
3) maybe, or you could’ve taken the money you’re saving with the hopefully lower payment on your existing car (or refi) and stick that in the bank
4) again, paying interest on top of a balance you’ve already paid interest on isn’t a big picture move, plus OP is looking at a lease so in his eyes, future elimination of payments altogether won’t happen.
5) fair point. No one makes your money for you, so you spend it however you want to make you happy.

I’ve spent money on dumber stuff than a truck so please don’t think I’m chastising you. Half of your points are valid, but the other half is just bad math. I just don’t think there is any reason financially to dig this hole. Personally? Sure. Could need more space for family or the old car is on the way out. But financially this is a miserable move

Sounds like they're giving you the low end of your trade-in, go fight for that $2000!

I wouldn't lease a vehicle. I wouldn't roll that much debt over to a new vehicle. I'd wait until I was in a better financial position.

You're better off waiting a bit, improving your credit score, private selling your mini, and buying a 1 or 2 year used Gladiator.

I hate to tell you "don't do it," but it honestly looks like a bad idea in your situation.

I found a Gladiator that I want and was able to get to 8.2 off of MSRP, which I think is about 1% under invoice.

Does this seem good, or are the dealers in the NY area that are known to do better than this (on in stock inventory).

I'm not familiar with the NY area, but there are dealers out there that regularly do 5% off invoice, and some cases higher. I got 5ish% off invoice on my LE, but ti had been on the lot 3 months. For most I think you should be working an percentage under invoice, not MSRP.

I picked up a Billet Silver Launch Edition last weekend for $55k drive out ( tax, tag title and dealer BS). Was pretty happy. I shopped for a bout a month. I didnt trade or finance, so not sure if that helped. I was working with people all over country and no one would get right on price. Then found one in my backyard ( was looking for white, found the silver and liked it better).
