That’s not bad at all. It calmed down pretty quickly.
Try starting a diesel in that temp!

Agreed! I thought she was going to struggle a lot more. Dad has a diesel (Sierra 3500 HD), and it's definitely a struggle to fire it up in this weather.

Coldest I've had so far was -11°F was our coldest day yet of the winter wind-chill that day was -25°F or so. Had no issue starting :like:

That started miraculously well for those temps. This is Anchorage but I know the guys in Fairbanks have us both beat. For years I had an old M1009 with the military 24v starting system and a manual glow plug controller. In Fairbanks in January not plugged in it would fire up. Would take a few cycles of the plugs but it would run. The old 80s diesels would not really ever heat the cabin like a gas car could though. Too much heat going into combustion didn't leave much for cabin heat. That's why I ultimately sold it I just got too old to keep freezing my balls off for 4 months of the year and my kids didn't want it.

You guys just aren't used to the diesels I had to deal with in the 1980s - farm tractors, etc. If the ether was empty, you ain't gonna get it going. JD diesel tractors were the worst. Crank and crank, hit the ether, might start - then it sounded like heck and had no power under it ran a few minutes.

Yeah, but wind chill doesn't count on non-living objects. Only the driver.
There's one item these trucks are missing - a hot coco or coffee dispenser.

I know but it sounded better lol
Yeah, I can see why you said it - and I read your post while watching an old episode of Ice Road Truckers and they showed -42 and then I saw your post and went out to the kitchen to get a cup of HOT coffee!
I've been to Fairbanks, White Horse and similar places. DANG COLD!

not true. I had a bottle of 90 proof whisky in a bag on my roof rack. Drove 8 hours in 15 degree above zero weather. it slushed up due to effects of windchill. Without that it would need to be -30 for same effecr.
