Interesting, that is a dealer that is local to me too. I traded my JLU in on the gladiator last month and honestly wouldnt care if the previous owner contacted me as I have stuff I could sell them but i guess thats not normal.
I actually think you're normal. The case of someone actually harrassing you would seem to be the rare case to me. It's literally never happened to us at our dealership in thousands of transactions over 54 years.

That was the #1 reason for me to want to get in touch with them, to give them money for stuff they will probably throw away.

Mark here,
I did explain that I am a dealer, and the dealer to dealer sale means the ownership info is transferred to the new dealer, (in this case me)as the title is still in the old owner's name until it gets registered with new plates to a new owner. I bought a 2018 Raptor at the auction with 1,400 miles on it with the intent to sell it for a profit. The guy traded it in after only two months of payments and ownership because he got in over his head on the payments. According to the payoff on the title, he owed over 80K on a 72K truck, WOW that dealer got him good on all the aftermarket stuff life Accident and health ins etc. I ran it up to 50,000 miles because I liked it way more than I thought I would and should. Just sold it to a great guy, (we are now friends, and his brother brought his Gladiator by to show it off to me, It's pretty crazy, 6 inch lift 37's etc,). I took his 2023 Tacoma in trade on the Raptor, sold it to one of the Toyota dealers in the area. Now friends with that dealer as well. I'm not used to being treated as if I am trying to do something wrong for wanting to know about a vehicles history. I'm a car guy with several classic and/or antique cars. It's considered normal behavior in my world. I'm also a boat dealer, and we often have to give the buyer the old customer's info, especially if they are registering the boat out of state. In 54 years, it's never been an issue, so i am pretty shocked at the negative reaction I'm getting. That's OK, I will delete this post soon, as I want to be able to enjoy my new toy on this forum, rather than have a bunch of guys on here think I'm some sort of weirdo.
Funny, after years of owning Jeeps, a CJ 5, a CJ 6, 3 CJ' 7s, and 2 CJ 8 Scramblers and now this Gladiator, I thought I was a Jeep guy, with all the friendly wave stuff and all that. I've bought a bunch of accessories off Facebook, a soft top, Half doors with uppers, Warn bumper and winch, and met some great folks. They offered up being Facebook friends, and the lady I bought the top from and my wife chat about going to Sturgis together on our bikes this summer. Me and the guy from Tennessee that sold me the half doors are now Facebook friends too. But I've been treated soo differently with this post, that I'm not sure I fit in here on this forum, just not what I'm used to in my world .
Because you’re a dealer doesn’t give you a pass to
I didn't "gather it" it was freely given to me for registration purposes. I'm a dealer, and dealer to dealer sales are done that way for the most part. Those of you concerned with that should know if your trade in goes to auction, or is otherwise sold from a dealer to another dealer, that former ownership info goes with the sale, except in a handful of states that allow dealers to apply for a title in the dealerships name without registration. My wife's CTS V Wagon was that way. The dealership in Kansas City, Missouri had a Missouri title made in their name because Missouri allows that, and the car was last registered in Florida. It may just be the way Missouri does there titles, for privacy reasons. The unfortunate part about that is in some states, it's an easy way that a wrecked car can have a clean title if it never went through an insurance claim.
My friend, let this go. As a dealer you may have access to personal information. It should be kept only for business purposes and then destroyed when no longer needed for that purpose. No one cares how good of a person you are or how many friends you made.
The only mistake you made is saying you have all their info. That stresses people out.
I’ve said some stuff on here that I regret. It’s done. Let it go. No need to explain more.

Do what? This is where you are wrong. I clearly never did give up any info on the former owners, and don't intend to, so my point in stating I had the info, was strictly to show I could contact them through normal methods, but chose not to, as IT WOULD BE WRONG ! I was just trying to see if THEY WOULD RESPOND TO MY POST IF THEY ARE MEMBERS ! Geez, what is so hard about this?! It's you who should drop your accusations that I did something wrong when I didn't ! IF i could ask the monitor, PLEASE DELETE THIS POST

Depends who you ask
Looks like you’ve retitled this post which now makes more sense. Seriously not sure why you’re getting so much pushback. But again maybe it’s a generational thing my wife and I bought a home a couple of years ago. We met the previous owners and became friends and have remained so. I think the original title and your question were perhaps a bit hard to comprehend TBH my first thought was that you were looking to track down the previous owner but for me personally that is part of my reason for trading a car into a dealer. I don’t want contact with the next owner I don’t want them calling me with any issues ETC. I understand that is not your intent but it’s a thing. I seriously hope you enjoy your Gladiator and this forum and hope you stick around.
Scott.

I think I saw that Jeep in Harrisburg surrounded by crime scene tape and evidence markers.

Decades ago I traded a full size Bronco that was three years old for a new Bronco. The person who purchased the trade called me and had some questions.
I did not mind answering his questions.

Seems to me if some OEM parts and accessories were missing they may have kept those things for their new Gladiator.

So I bought my 2022 Sarge Green JTRD Gladiator used from a Subaru dealer in Maine with only 10,000 miles on it, but they got it at an auction in Pennsylvania, and it originally was sold by Faulkner Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Mechanicsburg PA. The couple that owned it lived in New Cumberland PA. I have the PA title, so I know their names, but I don't want to disclose that publically. I called the dealership and asked them if they knew why it was traded in, and all the guy could tell me is they traded it on another Gladiator. I'm one of those people who likes to know the history of his vehicles, and I was just hoping that maybe I could ask them a few questions to solve a couple of mysteries . I know it of course had the diesel recall, and I don't know the details of if that allowed you to trade back in for a really good deal, or what. I checked and it had no other warranty issues according to my local dealer, who BTW performed the recall on the diesel already, and geez it was so easy. I literally walked up to a service writer, asked if they had a fix for the diesel recall yet, the lady said yes, when would you like to bring it in? I said How soon can you do it, she said in 3 days, I said great, lets do it. I brought it in three days later, and they did the new injector pump, and also did some tailgate recall thing I didn't even know about. That was December6th or so, and the truck has been perfect, but it was before as well. Anyway, just can't figure out why they gave up on this one.
If you like to know the history of your vehicles I’m wondering why you don’t purchase new? With very few exceptions I’ve felt regret purchasing used vehicles. I’d much rather deal with “depreciation” (better called peace of mind $) than repair costs and unknowns.

Honestly I don’t understand the negative feedback either but I read the explanations about the same time as the original post. It is a much different world than it used to be and it may also be the difference in my small town mentality versus city folks. Back in the 80s and maybe 90s, new car dealers around here would ask if you minded being contacted by a potential buyer about your trade in. I never cared and remember talking to a few. The only time I have ever contacted a vehicle’s previous owner was in the late 80s. I bought a used 83 Monte Carlo off a used car lot and while cleaning it up found a division 2 football watch stuck down between the seats. The used dealer wouldn’t give me the owner’s name, so I got it off the title and found him a few towns over in the phone book. It ended up being beneficial to us both because he told me he traded the car off because it was going through alternators. My girlfriend’s dad and I traced a short down to a wire rubbing on the trailer hitch someone had slapped on the back.

In 2018 I traded in a bass boat and moved to a slightly used pontoon that a Texas boat dealer had on consignment. It just so happened that the owner of the pontoon boat was selling it to buy a bass rig so we ended up trading through the dealer. Since all the paperwork went through the dealer, we never actually met at the time. A year or so later he contacted the boat dealer looking for my information. The dealer contacted me and asked if I cared, and I did not. He had come across a few things that should have gone with the boat and said he’d send them to me if I wanted them. I had also found a couple of seats and adjustable pedestals that should have gone with the Skeeter so wet met a few weeks later and swapped parts. That was the only time we ever talked or met but it worked out well for us both.

Another pov here, perhaps the missing parts were taken by the dealership/shipping company.

Seen that happen way too often when I was doing work for a local repair shop, years ago.

After all.. no one is going to miss that little box under the seat.. or a simple skid plate... Right?

That all said, while I do understand why some people are wary about after sale contacts, I personally don't see an issue with it. I've even gone so far as to contact people who have bought my previously owned vehicles.

Specifically, when I traded in the Renegade for the Gladiator, I could still remote start, locate, and unlock the vehicle via the owners app... Because Jeep never bothered to remove my access... And that access remained for almost 2 years.. all the while, the new owner couldn't get access to it, at the same time.

That little contact actually turned out quite well, for the new owner.. when her car was stolen and I was able to tell the police where to find it.

Only AFTER the vehicle was recovered, did Jeep bother to remove my access and give her access.

So.. no.. I really don't see much of an issue with you asking here... After all, you didn't go Facebook stalking or anything like that. Easier and safer, to ask casually, in an open forum. (Where everyone can see the conversation and inquiries).

Again... Just my pov.
