Those who installed aux switches

I am installing the aux switches now. Dealer wanted almost 500 for the install. Anyway, I got the harness through the cab and thought that would be the hardest part. Finally got the wire out of the grey plug but I can’t ge the wire from the harness to click in. Any advise about orientation or anything else? Just gotta get those plugs put together and I’m home free. I already have a tazer. I started this yesterday but stopped at this plug because I didn’t want to get too frustrated and sometimes taking a break let’s things go better when you go back at it. Not this time.

I got it install yesterday. Haven’t programmed yet but the blind spot monitor is unavailable and auto tart sop needs maintenance. Is this normal before programming or is there a write not connecting good? Wanted to ask before I do the walk of shame into he dealer.

Hi John, I want to install the Aux switches too... was the $500 quoted by the dealer labor only or did that inculde the kit?

That was labor only. If I had it to do over again, I would have paid for it. That included programming. I don't see well enough to do this in hindsight. Getting through the firewall was easy and I thought that would be the hardest part. These wires were a bitch.

Yeah, I'm more likely to let the dealer install for me...'I'm not as young and flexible as I once was. Thanks for the update!

yeah, just be careful with that stupid grey plug. I thought i was able to get mine done just fine, but somehow i messed it up and it cost me $250 for the dealer to fix it (since it broke the auto start/stop)

So that orange wire is not connected you think? I could pull both sides and just hook those wires together or take it to the dealer and just accept my lumps

Certainly possible. I'd check all your wiring down there to see before taking it into the dealer. upon reconnecting the battery i was getting a auto start/stop unavailable. I thought it was because the stupid 2nd battery was dead. when they looked into it, they said that i messed up the wire and had to fix.

It was those orange wires. I bypassed both connectors and problems went away, programmed with the tazer. All buttons work and are on the stereo to program. Thank you for the help.

Is that all the orange wire deals with... ess? I clipped the grey wire next to it, and no longer have sway bar disconnect. The JL wiring diagram I found seems to indicate that the orange wire deals with off road + and sway bar... but unsure.

Rob, I think I messed up my female connector trying to push the pin out, and the orange wire broke on the back of the connector right where it goes in. Did your dealer just replace the female side of the connector when you had them fix it, or did they have to replace the wiring harness? I'm wondering what the options are to fix this connector.

I broke the orange wire also where it comes out of the back of the connector, and the only code the truck threw was a U113E which was related to the intelligent battery sensor having lost communication. The result as far as I can tell is the ESS does not work now.

Does anyone know if the dealer can replace just the female connector on the wiring harness? I think I messed up the pin hole and the orange wire broke right where it enters the connector.

ok, so I did this exact thing... and the dealers I went to said no... you have to replace the entire connector...

hogwash I say... I am looking for some of these female pins, which I believe are called Molex connectors... just have to find the right size, then I can splice the wire.

What I did in the mean time was get a proper pin extractor, and push that broken pin out. The aux switch orange wire pin needs to go in there...

Then I took the broken wire, spliced it with the other aux pin (you are supposed to use the double entry connector that comes with the kit). Instead of using the new connector, I just cut the wire from the male end of the aux switch and crimped it with the broken wire...

presto-chango, all worked fine.

The only complication I had was I also broke the blue wire next to the orange one, so had to jump the wires.

Secondary note, my guess is your sway bar will not disconnect (or be able to go into offroad+) if that orange wire is not connected. if you could verify that, it will give me a bit more confidence in the my understanding of that bus system.

I'll check tomorrow and see if the sway bars are disconnecting or not. So far the only issue I have had is the ESS not working.

Does anyone know a source for the wiring connectors? Or a part number? I can't find them anywhere online. I may check the local junkyards for a 2017 or 2018 Wrecked Wrangler and see if I can cut one off and reuse it. If I can't find one I'll probably just have to by-pass the connector and splice in another type of connector for the damaged wire.
