Hello fellow gladiator fans. Being a brand new and first time Jeep owner, I am sure learning fast about Jeeps and I love that I finally took the leap. I am wondering about the engine warm up period that I just noticed. I get a message upon start-up on the dash info center in the "start/stop" mode that states, "not ready, engine temperature too low." I usually keep the dash screen in the gas mileage mode and have not got this warning before. It takes about 4 mins for the warning to go away and get the "ready" message. Is this for the start/stop function only? If so, why does the engine have to be fully warmed up? Or am I completely wrong and its a matter of this engine having to be warmed up properly all the time. I live in Southern California and it really doesn't get as cold here as in other parts of the country.

Suppose I could read the 1000 page manual and possibly find the answer. Ugh... So many good minds here though.

That is normal. The ESS system has multiple sensors that it monitors which need to meet certain criteria before the system will activate.

I always remote start with the phone app before leaving home. I give it at least five minutes to get the engine up to operating temperature, and the cab to the preferred temperature.

Thanks. I am reading it is only related to the Start/Stop function that I always turn off anyway and not to the general operation of the engine. I usually give my engine about 30sec to get the oil flowing before putting her in gear and taking off, and then I take it easy for the first min or two. Just old habits of mine. But for this Start/Stop thing to come up to temp, it takes at least four mins of sitting there in park. It had me scratching my head there, thought it was for the engine in general and I shouldn't drive it until warmed up. I remember old trucks that had a choke pull on them for start up, thought we were going back to olden times!

It does take about four minutes for the engine to get up to normal operating temperature. It can be driven before then, but I like to wait for the oil to be flowing well before putting a load on the engine.
