I got my new JT Rubi and it has the standard rails with no steps. My wife wants me to swap them for something with steps. My freshman son has to cary 25 pounds of books in his backpack and jumping in and out at school makes it tough. Any recommendations on step rails for the JT?

I ordered these because they add on with the factory rails in place.

Takes a while to get the order fulfilled, though!

Steps will get ripped off if you use your truck offroad. My former father in law replaced 7 steps in 10 years on his H2 (only has 4 steps at a time). It was down to one step remaining last I saw over 3 years ago. Our (ex's) H2 hit the rails on a regular basis with only a 125" wheelbase, no harm no foul. The JTR has a significantly longer wheelbase!

Hi Hambone...not sure if you are interested in any kind of retractable steps but I've recently installed and been very happy with my Amp Research Powersteps XL. They are a bit pricey (~$1700-1800) but allow you to retain a smooth look when retracted. Wife approved! I've included some pics.

There are also more rugged retractable steps from Rock Slide Engineering (RSE). These are a bit more pricey than the Amps (~$2100-2200) but are more suited for extreme off-road rock crawling. I've no personal experience but they are very popular and have nice reviews.

Just some ideas...

I like the idea of those, but would rather put that money elsewhere. I do love the color of your Mojave. That and the Sarge green were tempting, but the blue kept pulling me back to it.

If you don't need protection from crawling over rocks, I would look for some plastic Overland step take offs. It's a wide step, doesn't add much weight, protects the side of the JT from tire spray and won't rust.

These are by N-Fab...the steps are removable so you have just the rails when off roading.

i like them because they are minimal in appearance...

I have a thread up that reviews the Havoc side steps... bought mine for the same reasons as you.

If you might use the JT as a Rubicon on rocky trails, you won't want steps that can get torn off. I agree that the Rock Hard will protect and serve as nice steps,, especially if you put 1" wide Shur Tape abrasive on the top of the outer rail.

I had the same issue and I don't rock crawl so went with the standard steps off a Sahara but those RC country ones look nice

Alright!!! Finally got my steps in (not the healthy ones I get walking around the neighborhood). They arrived a week late. The hardware and brackets arrived 3 days after I ordered. The steps didn't arrive for another 10 days.

The Rough Country DS2 steps were exactly what I was looking for. The steps are flush with the bottom of the rail, so no chance of getting hung up on rocks on trails. It did cost a few inches of ground clearance at the doors, but it doesn't drop below the rest of the under belly. About twice as heavy as the stock rock rails.

If you buy these... The instructions are horrible. You have to assume all of your assumptions are wrong. You just need a 13mm wrench and bucket of common sense to figure it out. I've had instructions in Chinese that were easier to follow. I'm putting together a video with instructions on installation. Message me if you need direction.

Bottom line:. Right price. Right product. Right quality. Happy with purchase.

Jerry
