I ordered a 13inch Rydonair replacement antenna to put on and read in the instructions that it should be removed before going through a car wash.... does anyone know if this is a real concern? I wouldn't have ever thought it would be an issue.

I have a similar one, AntennaX. I leave it on when going through carwash. No issues whatsoever. Had one on my JK as well- no Issues.

I would never take my truck through a non touchless car wash...never.

Having said that, I don't see any issue with a touchless car wash. My Rugged Ridge 21" antenna has no issues.

What's the worry? That it's going to break off or water will mess up the metal?

I have personally had one of these type antennas break in my JL going through a carwash. It was the kind that has brushes and hanging cloth to clean. It broke at the stem that screws in.

Most concerned about damage to where is screws in- not all that concerned about the antenna itself.

You should always remove your antenna before going through a non-touchless car wash. Won't take much for one of those brushes to rip it off and/or bend the shit out of the aluminum fender it's mounted to.

I am assuming/hoping it didnt damage anything but the antenna?

Just the antenna, most of these types have a threaded post that you screw into the antenna then the Jeep. It pulled the thread piece inside the rubber antenna out, its just molded in it.
