I’ll have the complete 8.4“ Alpine head Unit and speaker for sale in a week or so. I have the JL Audio stealth box with 2 10” subs and a JL Audio 1000w 5 channel amp, with 2 sets of Focal 6.5” speakers (front and rear) and the Alpine Xl409 restyle head unit going in next week. In addition Im having them dyna mat the doors. Wasn’t cheap but I think it will sound great! At least it better for 8 grand!

That is a nice setup! That headunit is a real nut kicker though.

Factory 3.5" are one way paper cone speaker. I'd imagine simply replacing them with anything that has a more rigid cone is going to brighten up the sound. Going two way with a dedicated tweeter is even better.

The factory speakers, all of them, are pretty flat and muddy.
Exactly. Even with a crossover, a one-way speaker won't sound as bright as a two-way speaker.

All theory aside, the reality is the audio system sounds much better with the new speakers.

Well, it's alot better than the standard audio. I am a bit of an audiophile so it could be better. Lacks detail and soundstage but I didn't expect something spectacular. Just better.

OK. Guess I’ll find out.
I ordered some harness adapters and some JBL 3-1/2” speakers for a good price, and I’ll put ‘em in without any crossover. I’ll worry later about bass blockers if I need them.

I am so jealous of everyone being able to crank music with no negative side effects. I have terrible tinnitus and hyperacusis. I used to rock out in my teenage years, custom installed speakers myself, amps, whole nine yards. I had a system so sick in my old pathfinder. My hair was all gelled up rock hard with DEP Sport #11, you know what I'm talking about, the blue stuff, baby. By the time I got where I was going, the gel was blown out of my hair from the 2 12" subs in my custom made ported sub enclosure.

Now... tinnitus. It sucks. Don't do what I did. Be smart about it, people. It's not worth damaging your ears.

I don't really have a problem with the stock base audio either.
But, you know, JEEP!
I can't leave well enough alone!

I hoping the Premium system is adequate. I really don't think I'm as particular about car audio as I am like home audio (JTR speakers/subs with NAD processor). Current car audio is Focal/JL and JBL processor. Sure I can tell the difference if I am really paying attention, but most of the time when I'm driving, I'm not analyzing the system. You have all kinds of distractions while driving. Like others have mentioned, I hope I can just get the volume I need. Plus, I got soft top Jeep, so I'm not setting the bar really high here.

Good to see other old farts here. Priest was one of my main go tos back in the day. Pretty much any 80s metal or hair bands!

I didn't get the Premium system, but I will say the stock one is light-years better than it was in my JL. That system was complete trash. One of the reasons I didn't insist on the upgrade was how much better the new stock one sounds. Did get the 7" desk, but nothing else.

My only regret is not getting leather. 4 dogs. Back seat is hairy...

Yes, if I could go back in time...

Screwing up my hearing is one of my greatest regrets in life. :(
