So I've only had the Gladiator for about 8 months and it drives great and everything is awesome! Except... 5 months in, my gf was putting down the sun visor and this happened.

Jeep Gladiator Passenger sun visor broke!!! received_294632838916779

Danggg!! For being a jeep that can go up and down mountains no problem they sure skimped on the hardware. I actually saw a bunch of threads of this happening on the JL forum.
Anyways. I called my local dealership. They wanted $150+ dollars for the part. I didn't want to take my jeep to the dealership cause they do bad work and I trust myself fixing things. I searched around and the cheapest place to get the OEM sun visor from Mopar is....(drum roll)... Jeep Dealership in Myrtle Beach, SC. With shipping the part came out to $19.90 for the part & $21 for shipping. Also, at first I didn't know that the visors also came in a non-illuminated version so I bought the wrong one. If you are ordering make sure you get the correct version.

Install took about 15 minutes and now its good as new. It seems like the plastic piece connecting the wire was cracked to begin with. The new one is solid as heck and cant see how it could break again.

Heres some pics of the new one. posted in the post below

So really, what you've gotta do. To keep this from ever having that happen again.

Is one of these puppies on the backside.

Why didn't they replace it under warranty?
I purposely didn't do it under warranty and take the Jeep to the dealer. I rather just pay the $40 bucks and do it on my own. I don't trust dealers to do work.

meh, to each their own. i had my dealer do both of mine. While driving to get the passenger one done the drivers side popped out. So the dealer just took care of both while I had it in. That being said I know its easy for me cause the dealer is maybe 10mins from my house.

after sifting through that wrangler thread I feel like this clip is a far easier option

It's called an E clip, they come in all sorts of sizes. Would work perfectly here. Just need to measure the sun visor in the appropriate location, and match it with the closes (G) size you can find.

If you search, you will find threads here and on the JL forum about this issue.

i ended up buying some, and the pliers to use them, the other night. Figure since they’ve already broke once ill just get ahead of the game and reinforce them now

The offending piece here. The circled plastic clip breaks and lets the visor shaft drop out.

My hope is to be able to cut grooves into that plastic. But the metal wont be hard. Ill use a dremel to make it work.

FYI when cutting I recommend an abrasive wheel instead of a cutting bit. I started to go after it with a carbide side mill I have for my dremel, and it made a much of nasty glass shavings that float around. When you use an abrasive wheel it just produces dust or melts which is much easier to deal with.
