I just flip the visor down to lock the Mopar soft top

Or the sunrider. Same latch placement on freedom panels, soft top or sunrider. Never a broken visor but I ALWAYS make sure they are latched in at the inner ends when not swung to the side.

No stress on them at all that way - the weight is still supported, no vibrations, no shocks from the weight hanging out and off to the side supported by only the pivot area when you hit a bump.
They should last forever if you never unclip the inner end and swing them to the side.
But watch them bounce like crazy when swung to the side and pulled out on the rod.
Pure physics at work.

Oh, boy - when visors in some cars switched to plastic mounts/swivel areas...............
But in this case, we can pull the thing over and then put all of that visor weight several inches farther out from the pivot point!!

I probably won't, unless it breaks very fast. I'll just wait and tack it onto some other order

It is, but I'm not very trusting of warranties, especially when it's just as easy to upgrade anyway.

the visors last longer if they aren't swinging at the end of their extensions.

Or if you don't leave them unclipped, bouncing around unnecessarily. I'm constantly putting my wife's back in the clip.

After 5 years the drivers visor broke as I was using my Sunrider top, went to dealer for service and
asked them to repair/replace. I was quoted over $300 for a new visor (off warranty obviously). My
guess is this may have something to do with the Homelink ? Had wife use her Amazon account
and spent just over $10 for a set of plates. I'm 78 and it was a PIA to change, could have used 3
hands. BUT it has solved the problem. And guess what, just last week the passenger side gave out !
This time I was prepared. There was a clever repair posted here but I think the plates are the way
to go. A new visor is just going to do the same thing down the line, save your money. Jeep made
a big error here and should offer owners assistance.

a big error here and should offer owners assistance.

This makes sense. The repair plates vs. swapping in new visors.

And yes, it's a weakness in design for sure. It simply can't handle what it's asked to do.

My driver side broke a month after buying it in 2020. Passenger last 5 years and broke a couple months ago. Was gonna have it warrantied but it's too big a pain to drop it off at the dealer and leave it all day for a $16 part. Just bought and installed these...

I'm the original owner (5years) and I have never needed to unclip, extended and/or swing either visor to the side window. Pivoting them up and down enough times...they will break.
I don't know what to say other than what I have already mentioned ... mine have both broken and fell out of the hole.

She also quite often doesn't clip them back when done, so they hang and rattle until I simply push the end back into the clip. She swings them out, uses them simply pulling down and pushing back up, has them fully extended, and yet - 3 JTs and a JLU, no broken visors.
Where's the difference?

Probably where the motors without issues and paint that doesn't bubble comes from.

Have you kept any of them up to 60k miles?

That doesn't seem to matter as people were talking of this issue in 2020 with vehicles still under warranty - even only 20K-30K miles.

IF they are breaking for people who don't unclip and swing them to the side and extend them, I would wonder if there's too much tension on the visor/rod.
There is flexing there even I can see. But it only flexes when pulling the visor down, and less when pushing it back up. We use visors a lot. I suspect my wife uses her side as a passenger more in 10K miles than many do in 20-30K. (she likes the mirror bit so often gets in, pulls the visor down, checks hair, then moves it back.)

I just threw out that 60k miles number because that is about when mine broke.

If I got rid of mine at 55k miles, I would've also never had the problem.

My driver visor is the broken one and I bet my girlfriend has more driver seat time than me.
