Washing my JTM this weekend and I realized that I have the pretty common rear window leak......

From what I understand the repair is usually not done by the dealer, it needs to be broken, there's a good chance my hard top will get scratched in the process and there's probably a parts delay.

For those here with more Dealer/Warranty experience, is there an opportunity here to upgrade to a painted hard top? I would be looking to purchase the new painted top at retail, minus the cost to do the repairs. Is this even an option a Dealer would entertain?

I dont see why they would but you can ask.

The dealer gets paid for warranty work they perform, not warranty work they could perform. Once they do the work there is nothing of value to barter with, no credit of sorts, the work has been done. And if they somehow did this they would have a repaired black top sitting around they need to get rid of.

On the Jeep side there is no forgone warranty claim that Jeep is going to let you apply to the new top as a credit. And then you still have the issue of what to do with the black roof. Sell it as is broken, or pay for it to be fixed which is back to square one. Jeep won't want it back, they have no use for a repaired top to sell or reuse.

Thanks for the reply j.o.y.ride

I don't have much experience working with a dealer on warranty repair, so I appreciate the insight.

Get your top fixed, sell it and buy a painted top.
