If it works on a JL, it should work on a JT. Quality is hard to tell. I would want to see the Installation Instructions before buying one.

You might check the JL forum to see if anyone there is using one.

Huh well that’s something…

Traded in a Sierra for the gladiator. Only 2 things I miss so far are the HUD and cooled seats.

From my experience with that, it doesn’t seem like it would broadcast the display where you want it. In the Sierra it was dead center right where your eyes would be over the lane in front of you. All you had to do was adjust your gaze ever so much down to see it. It looks like that ones you would have to look to the left pretty good? Which would defeat the purpose?

I was looking to add some form of HUDS to another vehicle I have but most require a square film to be attached to the windshield area that it projects to which makes it look pretty cheap.

Instead, I ended up having a custom "H.E.D.S. Can Gauge with 1.3" color display" built for me. It has a bunch of screens you can toggle through to display different info (if vehicle supported- it shows speed, rpm, coolant/oil temps, volts, throttle position etc. It can also read and clear DTCs). It plugs into the OBD to read various vehicle parameters.

In the other vehicle, I made a mount so I could slip it behind the sunvisor. Its at a perfect height to slightly glance up to see it. Its not a HUD exactly but I've been very happy with how its worked out for me.

The guy who builds them is named Hayri and lives in Bulgaria. He sells them on Tindie. I haven't tried it on the Gladiator (don't feel like undoing the wiring I ran) so I don't know if there would be an issue. But I've bought several of his custom built stuff and have had no problems.

If someone wants to try one for the Gladiator, I can give you his email to discuss it with him. He is very responsive and has great communications.

All the instructions that came with this thing are in hieroglyphics, but there are some pictures. Either way, it seems pretty straightforward - the speaker trim / hud module has a short harness with one small connector that feeds through behind the dash.

Then there is a second harness that it plugs into, and that leads to a pass-through for the OBD-2 connector, where this thing is getting it's info from. There is a small box attached with 2 wires coming off, labeled can high and can low, but they seem to terminate at some goofy plastic clips that dont actually mate to anything.. not entirely clear what that is or if it is necessary.

The description of this thing mentioned it had a small speaker with voice prompts, so I'm hoping that the box doohickey is that and I can simply unplug it and run without it.

This thing looks pretty simple, I'm going to try to get it installed and tested today.

Okay, got it, I'm an idiot.. the can high / can low wires end in T-Taps, that's what those are. Instructions show that you should remove the steering column trim and connect them there. I'm not comfortable with that, so I tried running without them. It does function for about 10 seconds and then shuts off. Im going to go ahead and return it at this point, I don't want to screw with my can system while it's under warranty.

For those interested, install was pretty quick and easy. Plug into the OBD-2 dongle, fish the wire up through the IP end cap and connect behind the speaker.

That doesn't surprise me. Something like this needs access to the CAN system to get the info. Honestly, I would be more surprised and confused if it were able to function without that. I would think that it's totally expected that anything like a HUD would require access to the CAN bus.

Isn't pin 6 on the OBD2 the CAN Bus high and pin 14 the CAN Bus low? Wouldn't it just get the CAN Bus data from there?
