Most of my cars have been driver side exhaust outlet. But - my Chevy was right side exhaust outlet - pointed to the right, not the rear. The only time I really heard it was when I was on the freeway in the right lane and the exhaust pointed at the concrete barriers. Here’s some quick perspective on this, because I occasionally hear some odd noises when accelerating. The JT is small, not insulated like a full size truck, and is somewhat of an oddity in that the exhaust outlets on the drivers side. Most single outlet exhausts on are the passenger side unless dual. Why the JT is driver I don’t know, but that will absolutely play a factor in the type of noises you hear against sound barriers or at the drive through.
Odd that my cars were left and that truck right. Not sure what makes them decide other than space under for the muffler, etc.
But yeah, these trucks have all of the things going for it that make the driver hear things they'd never hear from other cars or trucks.
A "ping" that lasts longer than a second or two or more frequently, like hauling a load on the interstate going up an incline - that's bothersome. But a second while cornering at low RPM and applying throttle - won't bother me.
I need to gather some more logs from my truck but I've been doing some experimenting that indicates to me that these things are incredibly adaptable - I'll know more in a few weeks and/or after grabbing some logs, but I've made mine growl a little more at the intake and underneath at the exhaust.
