I’m really confused about this idea that Jeep owners are jealous of people who bought the new bronco. Why would someone be jealous of a vehicle that copied everything from the vehicle they have? I think it’s great Ford came out with the new bronco. I wish Chevy would have done it right when they came out with the thing they are calling a “blazer”. Also if I wanted a bronco… I’d go buy one lol. The idea that I drive past a bronco with someone in it that paid $80k+ And feel jealous is laughable. More power to bronco owners but don’t think we are driving around dreaming of driving a bronco.
I can't be jealous while simultaneously feeling sorry for them. So... I'm not jealous.

I had a reservation. I backed out for a few reasons.

1) the cargo area was small once I saw it in person. Larger than a Wranglers, but smaller than my wife's Volvo Wagon!!! I couldn't fit a dog crate in it that fits in her wagon. This is non-negotiable. I hunt and hike with my dog. He is filthy and often covered in ticks when he gets in.
2) ongoing quality issues.
3) They pushed off what I wanted (a painted hard top) off until MY 2023.
4) The interior looked and felt really cheap once I saw it in person. The Overland on up Gladiator or Wrangler have interiors with more and nicer leather. Nicer dash and controls, etc. The Bronco felt cheap. What makes it even worse is a $33k Bronco SPORT has a nicer interior than a Bronco.
5) Worse rear seat acomondations . My daughters are now old enough where I want them to have somewhere nice to ride. They are teens and still like doing stuff with the family which is awesome.

There are many appealing aspects to it though.

1) drives better than most jeeps on the road. I think I got the best driving jeep made a Gladiator Mojave, and its close.
2) Better engine choices. Sure the Jeep has a 392 and diesel. But those aren't real choices for many people. And they are a huge upcharge. The 4 cylinder bronco moves that thing along great. I drove a manual trans, 2 door with the 4 banger and it was a hoot. The 2.7T I drove in a 4 door with an AT also drove great. Far better than the pentastar.
3) Tech Tech Tech - this doesn't matter to me, but it has created quite a buzz. Goat modes and a 10" screen.

I was a day two reservation holder. Two months later we bought a travel trailer. So got the JT instead to tow it. We kept the reservation though. Then we decided to get a class c and sell the trailer and I no longer needed to keep the Gladiator. But my wife and I both agreed that the Gladiator is more practical and we should keep it. So my wife decided to get the bronco for herself. I must say I have no complaints having a both in my garage. If I had to keep one, it would be the Gladiator, but the bronco is pretty darn fun to drive too.

When I was trying to decide if I should keep the Gladiator or not, I was actually feeling jealousy or FOMO, from the thought of not being a part of the Jeep community. I drank the cool aid and can’t go back.

Until the Bronco comes in a truck configuration, there's no point in comparing it on a Gladiator forum. A Wrangler forum, sure. But talking bout it and comparing it to the Gladiator is stupid. Might as well be comparing Mercedes G Wagons to a Gladiator while we're at it if we're going to go that route.
This is where you make a common mistake.

A lot of people, the primary want is for an open air 4x4. A wrangler or Bronco will do. But a pickup is better.

That is where I was before I decided on the Gladiator. No, the bronco is not a direct competitor, but you make the mistake of thinking that buyers are rational. They aren't.

Back when I sold Saabs and Subarus, I lost sales to some crazy stuff. I lost a Saab Convertible sale to an Escalade. I lost a Subaru 4x4 wagon sale to a Corola sedan.

People are all over the place. Its crazy.

But at least cross shopping the Bronco and Gladiator makes some sense. If the Pickup Bed is a "want" not a need, then its fungible. In my case, the Bronco became a hard NO when I saw the small cargo area in person. I knew the Wrangler was nowhere near my needs but the photos made the Bronco look bigger. When I saw that the dog crate that fit in my wife's Volvo Wagon didn't fit in the Bronco it was game over. (It also didn't fit in the Wrangler) So the Gladiator it is.

Its interesting also that neither the Bronco nor Wrangler tow as much as my wife's Volvo. That thing is The Truck of Cars. ha.

I'm going to put a topper on my Gladiator. A friend of mine with a Suburban said that the Gladiator with a top was kind of like a 2 row suburban. ha. He meant, tons of cargo room, but only 2 rows.

Saw one in the wild on a trail not too long ago. They can hang pretty good. I wanted to hate it.
But if I had to choose between 4 Runner and a Bronco, I would get the Bronco. To me the 4 door Bronco competes with the 4 Runner.

I think the Bronco more directly competes with the Wrangler, mainly because the doors and top come off.

Im all for it. I’m actually surprised it took this long for someone to come out with a vehicle that the top comes off like a jeep. Toyota missed the mark with the fj.
As for saying it can hang on the trail, a lot of people don’t realize how capable a lot of vehicles are off-road, straight from the factory. I’ve seen 2 gx460s, one older and one newer, own trails. They were well built, lifted, sliders, bumpers, winch, tire carrier rear bumper and racks. They went anywhere they wanted to go and looked great doing it. A stock 2 door wrangler with lockers is a force to be reckoned with. Even g_series Mercedes are very capable off-road, with the right driver.

Over the several years of the buildup to production (are any full size broncos on the road yet) I was wet with anticipation.
The final outcome looks nothing like a continuation of the original Bronco, in fact to me the current iteration is a fj40 with an oval on the grill. What really wiped it off of my list of things to drool about, was IFS. In some of their early teaser videos there were just too many places where there were only three wheels on the ground, and to me that just creams lack of ability and stability
I think they'll sell a shitload of them, I think for the vast majority of buyers it'll be an image thing, kind of like a certain other vehicle. I'm not jealous I'm not going to laugh at a Bronco at a stoplight unless it has one of those silly ass angry eyes grills on it.

Back when I was in college I worked at a ski shop with a couple of jeep guys. On Sundays in the summer we would have "Drink and Sink Sunday". We would load up the jeeps with coolers, beer, and girls (so classic, a girl sitting on a cooler in the back of a CJ7 holding onto the roll bar, ha. )

Occasionally, depending on where we were going I would bring my Subaru GL wagon. Ha. It had slightly oversized tires, but it had a low range and skid plates. It was pretty amazing some of the stuff I could get through.

Sexy huh?

It does make Jeep seem a lot less greedy when you look at the build site for the Bronco.

I STILL can't get over how BIG they are, really glad Ford is pushing the benchmarks that Jeep set forward, but WOW they missed the "not a fullsize" metric!

Without even reading the article it sounds like a "there's nothing to write about so let's make something up".

I really wanted a Bronco since it was first teased. But I just recently backed out. Just too many quality issues, supply chain issues and in all honesty I hate the way Ford packages options to purposely upsell customers. Yeah they are in business to make money. But give the people what they want without making them spend $5k to get options that should already be packaged with other options in lower priced packages.

Have you ever actually been in one? Its not much bigger than a Wrangler. It looks like it is because the big square fenders are much higher than the bolt on fenders of the jeep.

One thing is for sure it is NOWHERE near full sized. The interior is probably 6" narrower than an F150.

Ehhh, it's like a carry pistol. You think a few tenths here and there won't matter, an ounce or two more won't matter. Suddenly, your belt is sagging and you have a bruise on your kidney.

2.5" wider on a hard-to-see-over hood that is DRASTICALLY wider than a JL/JT hood is a LOT.

2.5 inches is not that much wider. They definitely look much bigger than that, but that's due to stance and proportions. Bronco 2drs are longer than jls, bronco 4drs are shorter than jlus. Height varies too much across models to quote exact number but the bronco is generally a touch higher.
