So I just installed a new rear bumper and my license plate lights no longer come on. I did break the red tab on the harness so I bought a new one. Plugged the new one directly up to my stock lights, which were replaced and they still don't work.

There does seem to be a little bit of play for where you connect that harness to the other harness. Not sure if it was like that in the stock configuration or not since I didn't mess with before the switch. You can separate the harnesses by gently pulling them apart. Any ideas?

Are these the factory lights being reused or new lights that came with the bumper?

New lights. But I had to splice the wires to connect them. Since by new harness came in today and I still had the stock ones around, I plugged the stock ones into the new harness and that is where I'm at. If that makes sense?

I was going to make sure the new harness was gtg before I cut into the ends for my new bumper lights.

LED?
if so, did you reverse polarity when splicing?

I tried reversing the wires with one of the new lights with the old harness while I was waiting for the new harness to come in. Sane result no lights. The replacement lights are LED. But I haven't connected them with the new harness.

Pictured are the stock lights connected to the new harness

Do the old stock ones still work? And are they halogen?

Also no reason to cut the factory plug off, just tape it all up with electrical tape.

Neither work. Stock or the lights supplied with the bumper. The stock ones are halogen, the new ones are LED. The picture above just showed that the stock ones were plugged in and still not working.

The new ones were just the lights and positive and negative ends. I matched the respective ends on the new lights with the old harness wires and nothing came on. While I was waiting for my new harness to arrive I took one of the new light wires and switched them with the harness wires just to see if I wired them wrong and they still didn't work.

Time to put a multimeter on the harness and see if you broke or pinched a wire somewhere along the way. If your factory lights aren't even working then sounds like something got mucked up in the wiring (which may have fried the lights too).

I'm going to give that a shot tomorrow

Silly question but you turned the headlight switch on, not just started and left on auto?

Yup, tried that. Even started just to make sure to see if it had to be running as well. Tried this with both set ups.

I had this issue starting last night. This morning I checked everything. Started tracing wires to a small box just above spare tire. Unplugged it, plugged it back in, had power to license plate plug and wires! See if that works for you. *Note when I went to plug it back in, it wasn't very secure, clicking back together, so I secured it with some safety wire over the plug and across the box. Also added some dielectric grease.

Is it this box? This the the one where the wiring harness for the lights connects to. Not the greatest picture. But it is pretty much right next to the spare, on the driver's side. Or is there one literally above the spare?
