Anyone who believes in grand conspiracies has never been a project manager, especially in technology. I find their naïveté so cute.
LOL I just noticed this. But there are grand in-competences that small dedicated groups exploit.

I used to deploy and consult on PM software for Fortune 1000 and some smaller mid-size companies. Confidentiality? Coordinated efforts? Knowing that department B is doing X on Y date? Yeah no.

Whether it's push to start or it's a regular key, that doesn't have anything to do with the jeep phoning home. Those are two different things. Also, even vehicles with normal keys all have chipped keys now, so I'm failing to see the difference, if that's the concern. There are many vehicles with turn keys that still have connectivity. Think every OnStar vehicle since I don't know when. Also I think one of my Subarus used a key, and still had app access, but that's been a couple of years now.
Our 2000 GC has a chip key. RFID I get as a theft deterrent but I like rotary switch with the start posistion. I can have a slot for a key or just a fake key that sticks out as long as it mimics the old style ignition switch.

I think minis have a rotary switch. They used to, anyway.

All modern rotary keys are still fake, they are a pushbutton equivalent inside and electrically. These skeuomorphic devices are kept around for consumer acceptance and fooling people.

I know. Product development have converged on the systems and everything is just inputs to the GREAT ECU.

Same with a lot of things though. The lock icon on a phone, the charger that looks like a gas pump on EVs, the camera icon on a phone, any calculator app ever, the idea of "folders and files" on a computer. Does the grille on a Model S really do anything? Genuine question, I have no idea. Doesn't seem like it would though. I have no problem with skeumorphs, or nostalgia. Not a skeumorph, but the whole damn gladiator is nothing but a giant nod to the past. It's modern retro.

That said, I like my push button, and I don't want a switch or rotary.

True, I guess I want both. I just don't want the skeuomorphs to over-ride giving me the best design and features TODAY. Too many times, that happens. We appease morons instead of leaving them outside to be eaten by cheetahs.

I'm all about healthy skepticism, but damn. I think you're giving 'they/them' way too much credit here, @Jt-wrx. Agreed that our world is only becoming more and more connected and susceptible to manipulation, but that's a side effect of capitalism and technology - not the end goal.

I always come back to this: Never attribute to malice that which can adequately be explained by stupidity. Just because a Tesla (or whatever) can be hacked doesn't mean it was designed that way intentionally.
Good post, problem I have with it is the tech I'm mentioning here...the end goals weren't just dreamed up by tinfoil hat wearers but rather the just like everything else we're living out right now...it was written down, it was recorded, video'd etc. by the very people so confident they will get their great reset. I'm only paraphrasing their own plans, no fiction here. Just like the entire last two years of one group apparently being able to see the future and one group continually wrong...it's not because the one group is clairvoyant..it's because they also read/watched the plans from these 'people'.

As a subject change glad people are sharing where their connectivity is so people can disconnect...may come in handy one day lol.

The GM onstar thing has been covered, I won't be in a gm, have at it, I love the LS motors though, and actually lots of their powertrains, watching the new 3.0 diesel and 2.7l turbo 4 to see how time treats them. Connectivity would be my first delete with them though.

And yes on the rotary switches, at least the nut behind the wheel has to physically attach and turn something in the operators cockpit to get the thing fired up and turned off etc. A physical connection is as important as anything, the rfid is unnecessary and opens up a can of worms of possibilities that need an army of really smart university educated whiz bangs to try and solve for...lmfao. I digress...

As for the self driving cars, and or connectivity to someone else's control whether hacked or not..takes away your liability imo, you don't really own that vehicle so why pay for it? You're just a co-owner and subject to be an unwilling passenger at any time. Uber would be better choice perhaps. If insurance and liability is on those with the connectivity etc. then great, pay your service, take your nap or play your wordle gizmo on the way to work in peace and comfort you're in good hands lol. But if I'm paying for the vehicle and the liability, is on me the operator of it...better believe it's not going to be connected to anyone else. Way too high a risk there for me. Especially once you see what's really going on in the world today. The news tells ya but if you don't know how to read the news yet then you're being misled lol. ;)

I see though I must be hovering over some targets as there's quite a bit of response to my posts, if there was no merit, credibility, or risk, being seen elsewhere in life right now you'd all have moved on quite some time ago and I'd be posting only to myself. Keep that in mind fellas. We are learning, slowly but surely, that the world isn't really as they keep trying to tell us through that screen. Lead with love, it will make it a lot easier to see and help you see it sooner.

Kids caught a couple more giant pike this weekend, got a derby next weekend, will have limited time to play here again this week, make it good haha. Let the roasting begin. :)

Which I'm all for, and it can't come soon enough. We need it.
well, as long as you volunteer to be in the 13 of 14 of the carbon they want removed from the planet, the rest will fight to keep that from happening, and if we lose then slaves we will be, not that we aren't already but we're currently a scary number to manage so there's some concern, if not panic (which you are witnessing now) that we may find out what's really going on

40,000' view reality check and memory test, do you recall how seamlessly we moved from climate crisis into blm/white privilege crisis, to pandemic crisis and literally overnight into war crisis? What happened to the pandemic? Nobody gets to ask questions or talk about it? We're just simply moving onto the next fear program? Really? You're not paying attention very well. That's why two groups see the same thing...differently.

You starting to see how this works yet? Imagine a year of good news cycle...can't can you, why is that? I mean if 9 out of 10 people are good people why don't we have 9 out of 10 years as good news cycles where we all lift each other in peace and prosperity? The truth is because it's those 1 in 10 people have been running the show for a long time and you don't wanna believe it, in fact you've been programmed to believe the opposite. If we had even one one year good news cycle we'd get a chance to drop the fear based programming and start asking what the last 50 years about, starting with the last 5 years would be a good start...and things would start getting much clearer. Don't worry, this war crisis will quickly transition into something else as soon as they figure out it's not gonna work either due to the sheer volume of people who are shedding their security blanket and breaking that life long spell of their oppressors.

Your post today will haunt you so badly. If you knew what the great reset really was you'd never let that roll off your tongue, you just sided with the greatest planned genocide in our currently known history. I mean unless you're part of the 1 out of 10 club then this all makes a lot more sense.

I'm paying attention quite well. You still have never told us how a chip or a key or a cell connection will help "them" do a thing.

But, I'm one of them. Let's push the button. Now.
