Rugged is actually under instigation right now. The way they license their frequency isn't really legal.

OP really needs to go GMRS here.
I KNEW they would get busted eventually!

I KNEW they would get busted eventually!

It will be interesting to see what happens with them. Without those frequencies they have nothing except charging 4x the cost for a spray painted baofeng.

I have CB, GMRS and Ham in mine. I am a bit of a geek about it though. I would echo everyone else here though and suggest just going the GMRS route. The Midland Micromobile radios work pretty similar to a CB so there is no programming to worry about. I would get a mobile unit to mount in the Jeep and just grab a few of the bubble pack hand helds to pass to buddies that don't have them on the trail. As mentioned the Baofengs are for sure not legal to use on GMRS or FRS frequencies but I really doubt MR FCC is coming to give you a ticket unless you are causing a problem for anyone else.
