i’m sure this is somewhere but the current tire pressure on these semi-aggressive tires is at 42. would i be a little better off with 36-38 psi?

Check the factory sticker on the frame when you open the drivers door. It will tell you the correct starting point, raise it lower to firmness of desired ride …. Within reason, of course so you don’t prematurely ruin the tires.

I thought the BFG KM2’s were supposed to be strong 37 PSI, but I swapped mine for Falken Wildpeak ATW3’s after first snowfall.

My tire shop insists that LT (light truck) tires are designed for 50 psi, which are what the Falkien MTs on my JT and the BFG MTs on my JKU are.

If you aren't towing or loaded, use the 37psi on the door jamb sticker. That psi only applies to the factory setup. As tire size goes up, the psi you need to run to support the jeep typically goes down. If you are running 42 empty, you are overinflated.

I run 36 for comfort on the Mud terrains on the Willys. 50 is crazy whoever said that is an idiot and wants you to have a blowout. You don't inflate to the maximum pressure. You inflate to what the sticker on the car says.

My Jeep came stock with lt tires, and the door sticker still says 37. 50 would be a miserable ride, and I can't even imagine what traction in the rain would be like. I'd only inflate that high with heavy loads or towing heavy.
