I've never seen a new or used Mopar soft top for sale anywhere near around me.

Any updates to how the top is working out? Has anyone tried folding it all up in the middle and driving around, I realize it would need secured in some way.

I figure I would use the hard top for fall/winter and the rest of the year if this thing is any good I would have it all folded in the middle except if it's going to rain or if I want to wash it.
Been too cold and wet to even try. I do think it will be slightly involved to fold the back up. The back window and corner pillars will have to come out completely, then there are two straps with hooks that go down along the roll cage in the corners and hook onto the body behind the back seats. It won’t be too bad, and certainly easier than removing the hard top. If we could get a nice weekend here I plan on folding it up, and wrapping straps around the whole thing including the soundbar. Definitely will post pics once I can do it.

Not sure if its allowed but I'm looking to sell the soft top that came with my rig. Not gonna use it any. Not really tryin to make a bunch of cash so its priced lower than what MOPAR or Quadratec is offering. Shipping would be a hassle so need to be within a reasonable distance of my location (Western MT). Just thought I'd throw that out there for anyone looking at the factory soft top but not wanting factory prices.

I guess its all about needs and expectations.

I do a fair amount of highway driving in the winter. My daughter competes in freestyle skiing. So lots of miles. I have the hard top for that.

In the summer, its mostly around town and I don't really care if it pulls perfectly tight in the back or the rear window sags. (I've got a cap so you can't see it anyway).

To me its not really competing with a "real" top. Its competing for my money with a Bestop Sunrider.
I feel like I'm missing the appeal of the sunrider for it's current price. For 800 dollars I can take the freedom panels off and put them in the bed of the truck or the back seat. I'd rather spend that money elsewhere. What am I missing?

What everyone else sees in the Sunrider. Possibilities.

If you live somewhere where the weather changes constantly or quickly, and you can't see it coming, the Sunrider surpasses Freedom Panels.

Freedom Tops are great. One of the reasons we chose the JT over the Tacoma was the option for a "convertible" truck. And if you want to lift and store those all the time, that's fine, too. My wife is short and has a vestibular disorder. Having her take on/off the tops would result in a broken roof, dented vehicles, or injury to herself.

A Sunrider requires 2 latches to be undone and push the roof back. Practically instant. It can be done on the road from inside the JT. Too hot on the trail? Pull the Sunrider closed and latch it. There's no need to store anything, other than in your garage.

It's highly convenient.

And there is little practical heat retention difference between the Sunrider and the panels. I spent 4 days in Jackson, WY where it was 15-35* when we were there. The draft from behind the glove box is worse than anything up top.

It's already worth it if you take pictures - my wife pops up out of the roof and takes shots of all the animals we see on our trips. Can't wait for our trip to Glacier at the end of May.

Thank you for the reply. I agree that it seems more convenient, it’s just the convenience to price ratio for me. I think it takes about 1 minute for me to stow or re-apply the freedom panels vs what I would presume to be about 10 seconds give or take with the sunrider. That’s an expensive 50 seconds in my opinion. Different people have different opinions though, and the sunrider seems nice and super popular. Just can’t bring myself to spend that kind of money on something like that though.

Something like the softopper bed cover or whenever someone comes out with a 1k soft top (maybe the one this thread is about) seems a whole lot more useful for the money to me.

Oh, and you will love glacier. If you are able, the Grinnel hike is so worth it. It is pretty brutal for it’s length though, fair warning.

I agree completely. And frankly I agree with both of you.

There have been a couple of occasions already (and I've only owned my gladiator since January) where I'd have pulled a Sunrider back but didn't bother to take off the freedom panels.

And I have about the best of all worlds for a Jeep owner. I keep the bag in the back and have a cap on the truck. So I can just stick the bag in back with total security.

But yet, I could never get myself to spend $800 for one of those. I could however bring myself to spend $800 for an entire soft top even if it wasn't the utmost in tightness, style, and quietness.

Thanks. Its too bad you are about 2000 miles away.

If you are putting on a hard top, don't forget to remove all the trim and filler panels that come with the soft top. I don't know much about them, but know the new owner will need them and you won't.

Nice looking, it reminds me of my LJ's stock softtop when the in open position. Not in the market for a softtop, but not the worst one I've ever seen.

good point I will double check that. I think all those parts are in the box though. Its still in the factory box unopened. It came with the hard top installed.

In that case, they should all be in there. I thought you bought it with a soft top and switched to a hard top.

Help me out, I go to your site, click on rebates and it tells me there are none available for my Gladiator. What am I doing wrong?
