I recently purchased a 2022 Jeep Gladiator Willys Sport. It has push to start and the tow package. Since I brought it home (now about two months), I've noticed that the screen between the RPM gauge and the Speedometer, the push to start lighting, and the lights on the shifter (automatic) never turn off. All doors are shut, no additional key in the vehicle, hood closed, etc. I've got an appointment with the dealer on the 26th to take a look, but I'm at a loss as I know this is causing a drain on the battery, as if I don't drive it daily, after about a day and a half the battery will get too low to start the vehicle.

I've got a Switch Pros SP-9100 that I started to install as well as a couple of radios (CB & GMRS), but I've now not attached them to power as I'm trying to not cause damage to the batteries on board. I know that it wasn't due to the above accessories, as it has been like this since I brought it home.

Does anyone have any ideas on where to troubleshoot this, as I'd rather not have to deal with the dealership on this as they are already talking about charging a diagnostic fee, and I've got a feeling they are going to try to blame the accessories (which aren't attached at this time).

Are you sure it's not just "happy to see you"? Is your key in your pocket when you approach?

Remove the accessories before you come in.

They can't charge you a diagnostic fee if its a warranty repair. Its a new car. Tell them to live up to the warranty.

Just to confirm, you have not yet touched the electrical system, correct?

And when you do, I'd suggest you use ONLY the Aux wires to power that stuff.

I've checked this with both keys down at the house, which is over 50ft. from my garage. I wish it was that! :)

The accessories are physically installed, but are not currently wired to the electrical system. The SP-9100 is supposed to attach to the battery (both positive & negative terminals), F52 - Cigarette Lighter (add a fuse), and a tap to the running lights. The radios are going to be attached to the battery directly and are individually fuse protected.

As I said, it's done this since purchase, so if it was due to an attempt to connect the SP-9100 and/or the radios, fine, but this has been since day one.

OK. But don't come on here complaining after the visit that they tried to deny a warranty claim because of your accessories.

You make total sense. But the simple fact that they even suggested a diagnostic fee at this point suggests that this is not a good service department to work with.

I'm just trying to help you avoid a hassle.

p.s. I worked as a service writer at a new car dealer when I was younger.

Don,

Understood, and that's not my intent. This dealer hassled me on my previous vehicle performing warranty repairs (2015 Jeep Cherokee w/ lifetime warranty). If it wasn't them then it was Mopar.

Like I said though, it has been like this since I purchased it, before even attempting any accessories. I'll pull the accessories when I get closer if I can't find a solve before the service appointment.

Any ideas on which fuses or relays are related to the VIC, shifter lighting, or the push to start lighting? Maybe I can test those fuses or replace the relays...

It should have went back to a dealer on day 2 to fix the problem.

Have you disconnected, or had the doors off? Check for bent pins in the door connectors.

Bill,

No doors off at all. I probably should have had it back to the dealer sooner, that's my bad.

Another thing to check is that all pieces in the fuse box are properly seated.

The dealer may hassle you some, but point out that it is under warranty and you want it fixed before you make the electrical connections for the add-on devices so that they can't blame that for the problem.

Thanks Bill. I'll check it tonight. Either way, I'll post here what it ends up being the fix. I appreciate everyone's suggestions.

Bill,

Went through the entire fuse box, verified that every fuse and relay are fully seated. Didn't appear to make any difference, although there were about 10 fuses that weren't completely seated - up about an 1/8th of an inch each.

I'm sometimes not sure why when there are obvious issues with a vehicle, even obscure, strange or odd ones like this, there is the assumption that it's common, others see it frequently and there's an easy "just do this" fix instead of hey- no miles on it, it's broken from day 1 (or 2) and make them fix it..............
No offense, but when there are electrical issues, why install anything, especially electrical things.

You don't have to use any specific Jeep dealer - any dealer in the nation is supposed to honor Jeep warranty.

Pretty sure that wouldn't cause a denied claim. they have to prove that the accessory item didn't cause the issue. The 9100 wouldn't cause the vehicle to 'wake' just by being attached to the battery. That has to be some other circuit integrated with the computer to wake the computer up.

You should take the time to make sure that all of your door connectors are attached securely and not just partly attached. I read on another thread that someone had a vehicle from the factory with wiring connectors not fully pressed together and it was causing issues.

Not really. I've been told that before, too - it's sometimes a standard thing just to let someone know "we'll look, but just know that if you did something you may be charged a minimum fee". It doesn't mean anything about the shop. Some service writers do that as sort of a disclaimer or whatever.
I was even told that once with my truck - then later they end up fixing things for free that I told them I'd pay for.
