Hey yall!

The long and short of it is I LOVE the fender chop from a distance, but upclose I hate that it can look so hacked up. Im very particular about my modifications and I understand the main purpose of the chop is to gain more clearance, but I would only be looking to chop the front DRL area and leave the rest of the fender as well as the oem fender liner.

SO if yall could chime in with what brand chop you have, and close up pictures of where you cut and what it looks like from a foot away or so. I want to see how ugly and how pretty each persons chop can look.

Ideally I would like to achieve a chop that youd almost think mopar sold a chopped fender. That way I dont get progressively more pissed off that I hacked up my fenders, as Im walking towards the truck.

TIA!

I did a fender “split” with my JTR. I used a quake fender chop bracket. Now I have used new inner fender liners.

I see that you wanted pictures of still keeping the factory inners. Sorry but mine didn’t go that way.

I did make a quick video you can see…

Rugged Ridge Sport S version

More like a fender trim than a chop. Only trimmed away what was needed to be trimmed away. Left the majority of the OEM liner and edge trim untouched.

pulled out inners and split the fender before adding new inner fenders. Not a hack job whatsoever.

Here’s a closer look at what I trimmed off…

On your last picture, I notice that the fender liner no longer goes all the way forward. With that gap there, do you notice any additional noise or the inner line flapping around at all?

No change in road noise. Any longer you would see the liner peaking under the edge of the fender and probably catch air and start flapping around.

This is definitely the most desirable outcome I've seen. Id like to see if I could somehow take it one step further to have the oem liners bolt to the new drl bracket with those two Phillips heads. Might be asking for a lot though. Thank you for the input!

Did you ever try this out? Anyone else? I have the Quake set arriving this weekend.

I’m looking to retain the OEM inner fender for now. I have the DV8 inners sitting in the garage but I’m on the fence if I want to install them so I’d like to try trimming first.

Honestly I haven't unfortunately. I still love the look but I ran out of money before school started and I don't have the money to spare for the chop atm. I still want it someday lol. I'd still like to retain the oem liners as I think they're the cleanest looking

For two months I ran a set of Rugged Ridge fender chops on the standard Sport flares i.e. the one piece flares that are NOT designed to be split. I was determined to make it work, so I got out the dremel, boxcutter, sandpaper and file, and went to work.

This was the result. Behold my butchery. My Magnum Opus

I left a small extension on the fender to cover the weld on the bracket for a different look. I also had saved cutting the fender liner for last, as I wanted to see if I could leave enough material left so that I could drill through it and hold it to the brackets using the provided bolts, and trim the rest so that it could tuck away underneath. Worked perfectly, left no gaps underneath, but unfortunately I never took a picture.

I was quite happy with it, the only reason I got rid of it was my 37's STILL didn't clear with the liners removed and the fender lip trimmed, so I ponied up the cash for some proper flares.

@Tart_Cart you have 2pc flares. Your fender chop doesn't have to be expensive. I did mine for $40, then added another set of lights for a total around $80.

Pony up the cash for a tire rotation and wheel balance... your tires look like they hate your guts!!!

On a side note, glad to see other people doing their own thing. I'm looking at 37s with as little lift as possible for lower COG and fender trimming is a must when going this route.
