I had the three free jeep wave oil changes and rotations. So I decided to get the first oil change done early and the tires actually seemed to need rotation based on wear. Anyways my wife dropped off the Mojave and the tech asked her if she was sure it even needed to oil changed this early lol. So he asked to see the oil life meter on the dash. Anyways i Just noticed if they did rotate the tires the spare is still the brand new tire stored under the bed. Am i crazy or should that spare have not been placed in the rotation?

Is your spare a matching spare? These only come with 4 matching wheels, and the fifth is a non matching steelie. The tire will match, but the wheels do not.

Or you could always buy a matching wheel for the spare with TPMS monitor and do 5 tire rotations.

Some folks are doing that here and it seems to work fine.

I thought about this. Not sure if I will eventually buy after market wheels for the Mojave. The stock wheels are kind of boring but i was actually ok with them when I got the truck delivered and seen them in person. I wonder if by time I get a stock Mojave wheel mounted to the spare it will be too late to throw that spare in rotation because it will be so much newer compared to the other tires?

Unless you plan on keeping the stock set up for a long time, I don't see the advantage going to a five tire rotation. I have the same set up and I am doing the front to back rotation until I can manage the upgrade.

There has been a couple of pretty good threads already on 5 tire rotation. Even if you buy a matching wheel, most dealers are going to charge you to drop the the spare and rotate it in. Jeep Wave does not cover a 5 tire rotation on the Gladiator. OM also only shows a recommended 4 tire rotation.

Me personally, the juice is not worth the squeeze of finding a matching wheel for the spare, get it mounted and then deal with dropping it for what is only a 20% improvement in tread life.

I admit I'm conflicted. My 98 F-150 is pushing 250k miles and still has the original spare under it. I think I've used it maybe 2-3 times in all those years/miles. The tire still has the nubbins on it.

On the other hand I've always done 5 tire rotations when I could. I haven't decided on my JT yet. Guess I better soon or the mileage difference between the spare and road tires will be too great to screw with.

Good to know as well. Im still not sure what ill do. I was thinking of going up to 35s on the Mojave, then taking the wildpeaks and putting them on the Gobi sport S when ever it is done with the build process. Ill have to see what sort of life is left on them when that happens. From there i can decide if i buy 5 tires and wheels for the Mojave and by then the free oil changes and rotations will probably be used up anyways.

I feel that it is not worth the hassle. You may get longer life with five, but when it's time to replace you're buying five instead of four. When I traded my 13 year old Silverado for the Gladiator, it still had the original, unused spare under the bed. When I put new wheels and tires on it, I kept the take-offs for spares and always had two in the back. For my Overland, I bought a set of take-offs with TPMS sensors from another member. Now I have four spares with decent life and sensors, and should never need to drop the factory spare.
